Is there an in universe reason for this? Like a bit of lore or something i'm missing?

Because i love the idea that the backlash of distorting reality via wish is existence itself pushing back against whatever is attempting to alter it. And that the only reason you can duplicate spells without worry is because you're using an established system-spells- which has been recognised by the existence.
