Read up and learn the rules. It doesn't have to be learnt all at once, but just make the effort. It will make the DM's life and the game flow better if you know most of it already. That doesn't mean memorising it all at once a d your first few games will inevitably involve asking questions and learning on the fly. Just don't be the guy that's been playing every week for ten years and still asks if it's a d6 or a d8 for a perception check.
That said, if you don't understand something, ask. It's much easier to learn if you're asking rather than everyone else guessing what you don't understand.
Be willing to stand out and have fun with ideas.
Be considerate of others and do not hog the spotlight either.
Avoid PvP, which is when you're fighting another player, both in game and as people in the real world. Unless done very well, it just gets frustrating and annoying.
Be willing to present your own ideas and also how your character can fit into other people's plans.
Honestly, it can all be summed up as be a decent person, try your best to learn and have a good time. Can't ask any more and it's not beyond the ability of anyone.

Don't interrupt other players when they're talking or interacting with the DM
Allow people to do what they do without injecting your own character into what they're currently doing, unless it makes sense
Eliminate any character motivations that would prevent cooperation with the other players' characters - "it's what my character would do" is not valid. Such a character would not be part of the party to begin with
Try to have a role for your character that no other party member performs - ie. some are good at sneaky stuff, some are good at taking lots of punishment in combat etc - Try to do something noone else already does.
If you often know the answer to something, then sometimes don't pitch ind, let someone else give the answer
Don't talk more than 25-30% of the time if you're a party size of 3-5 players.
It is best not to just spring stuff onto them. If you have something you want to do make sure to talk with your DM about it and see if it is possible. IF it involves the other players make sure they are involved and okay with the conversation too.
