hello everyone. I am attempting to make a patron for Warlocks called the Crow Father, and am trying to create a Feature grants Minor Arcanums. The idea being that its like the lore bards magic secrets. but I'm in a jam here. I realized that, default, any spell chosen will be cast at is based level. i wanted the player warlock to be able to cast this once per long rest, and then be able to cast it again with a warlock spell slot. but i don't see scaling options in the spell tab. this is a cast at level option, but that is static, and I'm trying to have it scale with the warlocks spell slots, (up to being castable at level 5.
to be honest typing this out now, i don't think that's a great idea, and that they should be cast at their base level. but the question DOES still remain. is their a means in the spell tab for class features to add scaling spells?
If you leave “cast at level” blank but set “Consumes Spell Slot” to “Yes,” then they would have to spend a spell slot to cast the spell, and they system automatically takes care of upcasting based on the level of the expended spell slot. So for Warlocks it would always automatically be at their max level. (For other casters it would depend on whichever slot level the player spends at time of casting.)
To let them cast it once for free per long rest, and be able to expend spell slots to cast it you would need to “Add a Spell” twice, once with the “Limited Use,” and once with the “Consumes Spell Slot.” (Both would need “Counts as Known” set to “No.”) If the player gets to choose their spell you would have to tell them to pick the same one for both dropdowns. If you are only including a limited selection of spells then you could create them as different “Options” attached to that feature (one option for each of the spells they could select) and you would “Add” the designated spell to its option both ways.
