Hey folks; hoping to get a little help. I recently created a homebrew spell that simply reskins 'Hunger of Hadar' for my Genie Warlock. Using Hunger as the template, I've changed the spell damage to lightning & thunder (instead of cold & acid), made it scale the damage (1d6 for each damage type per level), and changed the save to Constitution. The issue is when I cast the spell from my sheet, it's only rolling 1d6 for each damage type instead of 2d6. I haven't changed any of those dice values from the original spell. What makes it quirky is that it wasn't working at the start, then worked fine for a small bit, but it's gone back to the wrong values (it returned to not working without any edits to the spell). What would be causing this issue? The character using it is in a campaign; do campaign DMs have to 'approve' changes in homebrew spells? I've also deleted the spell and redone it but still having the issue.
No, DMs can’t control players’ homebrews. They could remove the spell from your character if it had to “learn” the spell, or if you attached it to the subclass they could change the subclass to a “homebrewed copy” of that subclass so you couldn’t alter it anymore. But they cannot adjust your homebrew.
The not working->working correctly was probably because it took the system a little time to catch up to your changes. The working correctly->not working could have been one of two things: 1. It took the system a little longer to finish catching up to additional changes you made when you thought it wasn’t working correctly. 2. They system is screwy. (Which I think it is at the moment because of the jackhammering the Devs are doing right behind your character sheet. Updates are coming if you haven’t heard)
Are you using the website or the app to run your character?
I think the system taking time was the issue...does seem to be fine at the moment...I'm learning to have patience :) ...thanks for the response thought.
