So I am making a special magical halberd but one of the things i want to do is make is 2D10 instead of 1D10 damage. I was wondering how do you do this, because the way i tried didn't edit the character sheet quick lookup for the damage stat it instead added a second line of damage you could only see on the fully opened drop dowwn description of the weapon attack. Does anyone know how to edit it so it properly alters the damage of the weapon to make life easier for my players.

The way 5e is designed (and also the way that it's implemented on D&D Beyond) is to only have a set number of weapons, that are balanced.
Any new weapons are supposed to be just an existing weapon with the name changed.
As such, you can't change the "base damage" of a weapon.
This may change in the future, I don't know, but for know it's how it works.
It sounds like you've figured out the correct way to implement this though, which is to add an extra 1d10 damage.
