But seriously, why can't I even get all of my basic information on a home brew weapon to show up in the weapon description when you click on the weapon? Is there a limit? Everything except the last line shows up.
This is what I have in the basic description:
Scythe
Another tool converted into a weapon, the scythe mounts a curved blade perpendicular to a long wooden haft. It was originally intended to be used for harvesting grain and cutting fields. It is slow and awkward as a weapon but deals significant damage. It can do piercing or slashing damage.
No, there is no limit. You probably have some errant html that’s clogging things up. At the top of the description field click the little grey button with this symbol: </> That will let you see the source code, eliminate any and all source code other than the following:
Yeah, working now. Not sure why it wouldn't show before. I wish the modifiers worked properly. It seems they aren't even applied most of the time. For example, if I give a weapon the 'versatile' property it ignores the value I designate for that property and instead just bumps the dice up one degree. So frustrating.
That’s because that’s exactly what versatile does. It doesn’t allow for custom values, it does exactly what they say it does in the books.
No it doesn't. It never states that it automatically does the next die higher in damage.
PHB, pg 146
Versatile. This weapon can be used with one or two hands. A damage value in parentheses appears with the property-the damage when the weapon is used with two hands to make a melee attack.
Sure, but what you said is incorrect. You are inferring that the versatile bonus is automatically the next die higher. That property doesn't say that.
First of all, the speaker implies, the listener infers. I’m not inferring anything, I’m implying. Second of all, that’s how DDB has it programmed because that’s how they inferred it. Third and finally, arguing the point will get you nowhere, that is what it does here and you can either accept it or post about it in the Bugs & Support forum where someone who actually works here but is far less helpful than I am will tell you that’s what it does and then ignore anything you say in response to that because that’s how they roll around here.
OMG! Semantics. Or......The book is the 'speaker' and you were the listener, thus 'inferring' what you thought the book was 'implying'. Maybe that was my point. But seriously, that's just childish to devolve the topic into an English lesson. Yes you are most likely correct on your third point. However, some times people just want to vent. A simple, 'Yeah they probably messed that up' or 'here's a work around' goes a lot further than having someone defend an oversight or incompetent product.

Look at every weapon with versatile in the game: longsword, quarterstaff, spear, battleaxe, trident, and warhammer. Notice what they all have in common?
