Trying to homebrew a 3rd party race and am at a stumbling block. Race has a bite that does 1d6 piercing plus either STR or DEX FOR attack roll and damage bonus. So basically a finesse natural weapon or unarmed strike (the text first describes it as a natural weapon, then describes it as an unarmed strike ... I may go with natural weapon to gain sneak attack damage to this?). I don't believe I can create a finesse natural weapon or unarmed strike with the homebrew action creator. If giving the character an option for choosing STR or DEX in character creation is a work around, I'll do that.

There is a shift with natural weapons where they used to count as Unarmed Strikes (re Tabaxi), but that is changing so they will count as weapons moving forward (like the races in M³). Keep in mind that unless it includes the word “finesse,” RAW it won’t be eligible for SA, even if it is either Str or Dex.
In DDB’s system you would have to code it as two attacks, one w/ Str, the other w/ Dex. That’s the way official stuff (like Armorer’s weapons) have been programmed.

Got it, I'm not worried about The Crawford D&D Integrity Commando kicking in my door for that sort of rule breaking, though that would be funny, I'm just trying to get stuff to work in the builder.
So in DDB if I code it as two attacks, the player will see both on the sheet and make the choice? (I'm doing this for the kids, Sposta, for the kids, so I'm trying to streamline things as much as possible ... you know what D&D Beyond is supposed to do as opposed to me just filling out a google sheet manually, the happiness of neighborhood children is at stake here).

Correct they would see both and pick the one they want to use. It’s the same way that Lightning Launchers work.
