Hi there, I'm currently making a Drow Warlock/Fighter who used to be a servant/butler to a Drow Duchess, and I'm having a hard time figuring out which background would fit into this best. Any suggestions?
Like Sorce said, homebrew is nice because backgrounds were designed to be flexible for situations like this.
If you're set on going with only the official options that have been published, then perhaps Acolyte would be a nice fit. I would imagine a drow duchess must be closely tied to the priestess-hood of Lolth, right? So her subjects, like your character, might be (or had been) acolytes of the spider queen.

There might be some good ideas in the Homebrew lists of backgrounds? Im sure there was some that were servants/worker ones.

Wary the wizard who focuses on homebrew, for he can create nightmares that you wouldn't even dream of
