I'm trying to create a feat the doubles perception mod. How do I do that? Does this field do any math or can I put in something like [perception] so it adds the character's perception mod? I tried *2 or x2 but that doesn't work and I didn't see anything so complicated in the tutorials.
Currently that doesn't work, from one of the Dev Updates in the last couple of months, I seem to recall that in-line math is coming. In the meantime, is there a way to grant expertise through a feat? That might be easier to work with, and would offer a similar boost as what you're looking for (assuming no current expertise).
Let's you grant Expertise (adds stackable bonus equal to your base proficiency bonus for your level) in the skill.
These are based off your normal Proficiency bonus which starts at +2. If you combine all of these and your character is level 1 to 4 then this is +6 to Perception in addition to their Wisdom modifier. At level 5 your Proficiency bonus increases to +3 so this would become +9 to the Perception skill plus Wisdom modifier.
May not be exactly what you are hoping for but I figure close enough.
Personally I would stick with the Twice Proficiency (+4, levels 1-4) as it's otherwise overkill in my opinion. You can also consider just granting advantage on perception checks.

Aw, no math yet. Ok. Thank you for responding! I don't know how to add expertise to the feat, but I like where you're going with this.
When making a homebrew feature (race, item, feat) consider the following modifiers which may help.
Add Modifier >> Modifier Type: Proficiency >> Modifier Subtype: Perception
Let's you grant Proficiency (adds bonus equal to your base proficiency bonus for your level) in the skill.
Add Modifier >> Modifier Type: Twice Proficiency >> Modifier Subtype: Perception
Let's you double the proficiency bonus granted to any skill you are proficient in. Stacks with Expertise.
