I am trying to make a homebrew shield (armor) that also has an attack (once daily) with lightning 3d8 damage.
Regardless of making this piece an item, armor or weapon, I cannot seem to get the attack to show in the actions tab. If you were to build this, what would your steps be?
Attempt 1: Basic Info - Base item type=Item, Magic item type=Wonderous Modifiers - Mele Weapon Attack/Lightning, die count=3, die type=d8 Result: no attack action
Attempt 2: Basic Info - Base Item type=armor, Base Armor=Shield Modifiers - Mele Weapon Attack/Lightning, die count=3, die type=d8 Result: no attack action
Attempt 3: Basic Info - Base item type=Weapon, Base Weapon=Club Modifiers - Mele Weapon Attack/Lightning, die count=3, die type=d8 Result: Attack action 1d4 (with comment of 3d8 damage)
Where am I falling short of accomplishing this designed piece? Is there a way to make the Base Weapon="other" and set the die count and die type for damage?
You ARE very knowledgeable, when it comes to the homebrew!
Took a lot of trial and error, but I think I found a possible solution. I made the "Lightning Shield" a weapon and under the covers its a laser rifle. (Closest thing to 3d8.) Then added a modifier to increase the AC+1, as well as notes in the description about the usage and so on... basically an automatic defense reaction when attacked/hit initiates the lightning shield, or activates the laser rifle which does 3d8+1. Not bad, but at least the player has something to refer to and it's not as hidden down the page.
Not as clean as I would like it to be, but it works. Thanks for your response.
Yes, basing it on a weapon and then just adding the AC bonus and pretending it’s a shield is the only way. The only problem is that it doesn’t interact with the Proficiencies properly.
