Looking for any and all criticism on three spells published in the homebrew section. The 1st level spell,Dagger Aura. The upgraded version at Level 3, Four Corners. And the Level 3, Bladesinger specific, Dagger Ballad. These are linked to and the only results when searched for in the homebrew spells. I will keep these links updated as I make revisions.
My DM already told me there is too much "action economy" going on. But that is also kind of the point with these. I haven't gotten to play test them yet, but will do so very soon. Not sure how they will scale, but for this I need opinions of people who have been playing longer than myself.
If these are just dumb in every way, don't hesitate to tell me so. If they are exact replicas of other spells, I am sorry, there are a ton of spells out there and I've only been playing for a few months. I did not want to make short simple spells, so sorry if it's just too much reading involved. Maybe these spells are solely for the avid reader. Idk.
Also considering making Dagger Aura start out with a single dagger instead of two. Let me know what you think!
I looked at your dagger aura, it’s so past broken I’m not even gonna look at the other two. My suggestion, play the game more and learn it better before trying to homebrew. After you get used to the game come back to these and you’ll know why they’re overpowered.
Seriously thank you for looking at that! I am only in one group right now and it's just my close friends and we are all new. I'll be an old man before I learn how to do homebrewing right on my first try. I know you said you couldn't get passed the cantrip and I understand. But it was the last one I made of the three and what I thought was the furthest from being ok. Even if it's just the same critique, would you consider checking out the other two?
I was just trying to make something different with the X number and the prerequisites. I get these can be too much. Sorry. I will keep working on them for sure. Just what you commented on the cantrip helps a great deal anyways!
Nah, you’ll get it after a campaign or two. It’s really not that hard, it just takes some experience to know where the balancing points are. For example, to make that spell work as a cantrip try something more in line with other cantrips, and use other spells as comps to get a feel for things. And don’t be afraid to turn it into a higher level spell if it works better that way. In fact, you could split that into two different first level spell and still have some left over to reuse in something else. I tell ya what, I’ll look at the other two, but if they’re anything like this one then I can tell you this: your biggest problem is editing. You need to learn how to pare things down to the important parts and leave the rest for another idea.
I started with the Bladesinger specific one, and then tried to widen the field of users, so I just reformatted it a bit each time but gave them weaker power levels, not knowing if it work work better at lower levels or higher levels. I'm still working on the prerequisite stuff for the Dagger Ballad one and trying to bring them all down to scale and simplify them even more so. Thanks again for the feedback.

All those spells are so similar, am I missing something?

Ah. Yeah, I would shoot for something more generic than a spell specifically for bladesingers. And simpler is generally better.
