I can't for the life of me figure out why I'm unable to add the animate dead spell a character sheet.
I'm trying to make a homebrew item, that would allow the player to spend one charge to cast the spell animate dead, but I can't get it to actually put the spell in the character sheet. Does anyone know why this is, or maybe a way for me to actually do it?
I managed to make it work, somehow. The issue seems to be the fact that I had set the maximum amount of charges it could use for the animate dead spell to 1, which was the same as the minimum. What I thought it would do is make it so the spell couldn't be upcast with item, but it seems to have broken it. Setting the maximum charges to 2 fixed it.
Sometimes the system acts weird when there are spells of different levels and the charges either don’t match the spell level or don’t fall into a pattern like 1 for a 2nd-level, 2 for a 4th-level, 3 for a 6th-, etc. Don’t ask me why.
If there are no other spells then putting 1 for both the Min and Max charge costs should work out fine. After you add the spell, you must re-save the whole magic item or the system won’t pick up your changes.

Does that magic item also have other spells? If so, what levels are they?

No, it only has animate dead, I don't know how it would act, or if it would act any different, if there were more than one spell on the item.
