I have a player whose character is a Tabaxi Monk, and he wants to have the character’s claws coated in Adamantine. I think this would be a really awesome thing for him to have, but I’m not sure how to balance the process for him to achieve it. I figured his character would need the aid of expert blacksmiths, possibly a selection of healers, and even some kind of artificer to create a device for the process. However, I wanted to know if anyone would have some thoughts on this. Could it be possible for my player to have Wolverine claws, and, if so, what would be needed to get this to work?
Well, RAW the only real benefit to having Adamantine coated claws would be that they could overcome resistance to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage from nonmagical attacks that aren’t adamantine until 6th level when their attacks count as magical anyway; and that they would automatically crit against objects and structures. That’s really it. So unless you plan to make them more powerful in some way, then I wouldn’t make the process too complex or costly or else it won’t really be worth the effort. As is I’d say it’s barely worth the 500gp it’s gonna cost to do the job.
