To make a long story short, I made a homebrew race that has a melee range acid spit. Once per long rest, Con save or 1d10 acid damage. I have selected the ability as General (since it's neither a weapon nor a spell). I copied the same details from the Dragonborn's breath weapons, as they are a flat roll with no modifiers (it still makes me select an ability, but it doesn't add the modifier to the damage). Yet is requires me to select an ability for the skill, and adds that abilities's modifier to the damage. How do I keep this from happening?
You should leave Attack Range blank, as it isn't technically an attack.

Look at what you've done. You spoiled it. You have nobody to blame but yourself. Go sit and think about your actions.
Don't be mean. Rudeness is a vicious cycle, and it has to stop somewhere. Exceptions for things that are funny. Go to the current Competition of the Finest 'Brews! It's a cool place where cool people make cool things.

You must select an ability or it won’t be able to generate the Save DC, but by designating the attack range it instead registers an attack instead of as a forced saving throw, and that’s why it’s adding the modifier to the damage roll. Leave the attack range blank like Quar1on suggested, and instead set the range to 5 feet.
The problem.
