Player? No way to make a player a were-anything, those creatures don’t really exist. Their PC on the other hand? Depends. What level is the PC?
You're mean ;-; but we are still early level like 2 rn but a player wants it for in the future so i told dm id look around and ask people about a balanced system to try and lighten the load and be nice

I don’t intend to be mean. I do however strongly believe in keeping the distinction between players and PCs very clear. It prevents hurt feelings when things go wrong, and makes for overall better D&D.
Yeah, I personally wouldn’t do it until they’re at least 6th level or higher to prevent things from getting too imbalanced. Werecreature traits are very, very powerful. Before that, the best you might do is suggest the Shifter race perhaps.

i know you arent trying to im only joking and yea i agree them getting it early would be stupidly strong but im just looking for systems now so i dont do it later when it gets around that time

Well you've got an official species based on were creatures : Shifter, or two different pretty balanced classes based on being a were creature: Beast Barbarian and Lycanthrope Bloodhunter.
Another way to play a werecreature would be to become a MoonDruid and allow them to use the Beastmaster companion stats from Tasha's as their creature-form.
Those are the easiest & most balanced ways to play a were-creature. Otherwise, lycanthrope is a curse and should make the PC attack other PCs at least some of the time.
