I've made this idea while I was making the most magical character in D&D because I was on the high of making characters that are the most of, like the most draconic humanoid character in D&D for example. I don't know why but I like all of those characters but I don't know how to properly make subclasses, since I'm fairly new to this community. I do have the name for this subclass, which is Wizard-rised but I would like to know how to make subclasses by others.
That’s a BIG ask. There’s waayyy too much to explain, and depending on what you want the subclass to do you probably won’t need most of it. However, if you have any specific questions, it’ll be easier to help you.
Well I should've just asked how does one make a subclass, that's not an official one? Since we're doing homebrew stuff and if I heard correctly homebrew is more freeform interns of creativity.
I think we may be having a little bit of a communication issue, but I’ll try my best for you. Here goes nothing:
Come up with a general idea for a subclass, and decide A) what the general theme will be, and B) how you want it to feel in gameplay (more or less).
Read all of the official subclasses for that class and see if there’s anything that already fills that niche that you could just use instead, or if there is anything sortakinda similar that you could base your subclass off of, or neither. -a. If something already exists that pretty much fits your idea, then you only have two real options: 1. Just use that. The End 2. Repeat step #1– come up with a new idea. 👆 -b. If there is something similar that you could build your idea off of, then start with that and figure out what you wish it had or did differently and make those changes. -1. Play the subclass to see if you need to fix or edit anything. Once that play testing is complete, you’re done. The End. -c. If there is nothing the same as or similar to your idea, proceed to step #3.
Reread all of the available official subclasses for that class. Learn at what levels the subclasses for that class grant their features, about how many features they typically grant at each of those levels on average, and get an feel for how powerful the lowest level features are for those subclasses.
Come up with an idea for a cool feature (or features) that A) fits the theme you chose for your subclass, B) will work in a way that fits how you want your subclass to feel in game, and C) is approximately the same power level as the features from the official subclasses you read (more or less).
Re-reread the available subclasses for that class, only this time focus on the next higher level at which those subclasses grant features. Then repeat step #4.
Repeat step #5. 👆
Repeat step #6. 👆 (For every class except bards)
Repeat step #7. 👆 (For fighters only)
Follow the directions in step #2 -b -1 above.👆
So far, it seems from your first post that you’re halfway through step #1, you have an idea, and I think you (may) have a theme. I can’t really tell you more than what I have unless you can either A) give me more details about your idea, or B) ask me specific questions about what you want help with.
