I'm trying to make a subclass similar to Arcane Trickster or Eldritch Knight where they gain access to spellcasting but only to a certain school (Illusion and Enchantment for Arcane Trickster) but also have full access to the spell list at certain levels (8th, 14th, and 20th). How would I go about doing that? If I use the additional specific spell with nothing in the additional spell list I'd lose access to the full list at the aforementioned levels. If I use the Add Spell option in the Spellcasting feature I'd lose access to the much better looking spell list in exchange for a simple dropdown.
If you have Arcane Trickster and Eldritch Knight you'll notice that they both allow access to all schools of magic on the wizard spell list at levels other than 8, 14, and 20. It is only through our own discipline is the rule enforced.
"The relevant equation is: Knowledge = power = energy = matter = mass; a good bookshop is just a genteel Black Hole that knows how to read." - Terry Pratchett
