So, I am creating a new subclass for warlock and wanted to know if these spells are good spells to have as a warlock. I have yet to make them public yet because i want to get other peoples opinions on them before i make them public. I want to know if they are too over powered or if the need to be nerfed.
A Yin-Yang symbol appears above your head. You point at one creature you can see within range, and the yin-yang symbol will spin and shoot white energy beam at the target. The target must make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, the target 1d8 acid, force, fire, necrotic, or thunder damage, user's choice, and you regain hit points equal to half the amount of acid, force, fire, necrotic, or thunder damage the target takes. On a successful save, the target just takes half damage of acid, force, fire, necrotic, or thunder damage rounded up, user's choice.
The spell’s damage increases by one die when you reach 5th level (2d8), 11th level (3d8), and 17th level (4d8).

The spell reflects some of the incoming essence, lessening its effect on you and immediately deflecting the essence toward the nearest foe. You have resistance to the triggering damage type until the start of your next turn. The creature that attacked you is hit by their own attack, taking 1d6 of the triggering damage type.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 2nd level or higher, the damage increases by 1d6 for each slot level above 1st.
* - which you take when you take poison, force, psychic, necrotic, or radiant damage.
Okay you should probably specify, attacked as in making an attack roll only? Because that would allow other spells like Fireball and Banishment to be used without consequences with seems ridiculous.
Yang Soul Drain - Force is by far the best, no competition. Okay there’s a VERY good reason why no cantrip can heal people, this could literally be used on random animals in order to heal the person using it until they are full with no consequences, that with a 1d8 makes it very strong.
Ying Soul Drain - I’m not sure what’s with the damage types, they seem kinda random. This one's a bit more balanced since it uses only TEMP hp, but it’s much weaker compared to its Yang counterpart. In general, the two Soul Drains punch above their weight class, both deal cantrip level damage, with half damage even on a success. This means that the player could do anything they want with their action if it’s not an attack and still deal a respectable damage, although this is mitigated with how important Shield and Counterspell is.
Essence Reflection - This is just Yang Soul Drain.
Did you design these to overshadow any other damage cantrip? It makes no sense to specifically make them cheat action economy, and you should not EVER heal from a cantrip, especially one that scales to double-digit damage.
If I was the DM, I would never allow these "cantrips".

And did have both be temp HP but I was not sure how good that was since warlock already has a way to gain temp HP via Dark ones blessings. If anything, I may cut the damage to 1d6 or even 1d4. then either keep half damage on failed save or remove it all together and have it stay at 1d8 damage. And for the Hp gain, i will make both of them temp HP but have it limited to having a cap on temp HP from this ability like "You can only have Temp gain Temp Hp up to half the max damage of this spell."
And damage types are actually split between the two spells as diametrically or dualistically energies. Like Fire vs cold or necrotic vs radiant. That's kind of what my new subclass is about.

Nice. Though I think the damage dealt for Essence Reflection should be slightly buffed, since the damage is more niche than Absorb Elements, plus most creatures that deal damage of a valid type will likely resist or be immune to it.

Okay, thanks for the advice. I will make changes to those spells asap.

Hey, Maruntoryx, calm down. You are right but it is his/her first try!
Hi!!!!
I'm a DnD maniac and... I think the only Wizard that backstabs people Instead of casting spells.
I'm also an Anime and Fortnite fun.
