Hi, apologies if this is answered somewhere but I couldn't find it and can't see an option for it when creating a homebrew magic item. The closest I found to an answer was this thread that mentioned a "level replacement component" but I don't know if that was a feature that was trialled and then removed again.
Basically, similar to how cantrips (for example) scale up on certain levels, I'm wanting to create a magic weapon that increases/changes the damage die depending on the character's level. I've seen suggestions for making multiple versions of the weapon but that seems very manual when the mechanics would appear to already exist.
Items do not have functions gor scaling off level, no.
And the only thing that can scale off of ability and proficiency bonus is a flat add to a number value. Can't vary the number of charges or what abilities it has off of them.
Basically, homebrew magic items can only be used in vanilla ways because the tools were built for the official items.
Does the homebrew in DnDBeyond now have the capability for this? I'm trying to create a weapon that deals additional damage where the number of damage dice is dependent on the classlevel and I can't seem to figure it out.
It might change in future, they are redoing some stuff, I don’t know if that’s on the list. You should probably suggest it in the feedback forum. I would upvote it’s, and so would others.

Makes sense but is a tad bit annoying and frustrating. Ahh well, I think I'll just go the route of multiple versions, one for each level.
Thanks for replying!

Nope. Still can’t do that. You will have to make multiple versions for the various levels.

Thanks. That saves me some time. I can stop trying to figure it out, now.
