Hi. First post here so please bare with me. (And hopefully I put it in the correct forum this time 🤦‍♂️)
In my latest game my character's been gifted with two +2 shortswords but with different damage dice. What I need to accomplish is: 1) Shortsword +2 with a damage 2d4 (total of +5 damage) dice but proficient hit dice. (which would basically total +8 to hit) 2) Shortsword +2 similar but dual wield so only the +2 total damage.
These need to act like shortswords in terms of proficiency and two-weapon fighting.
For the life of me I cannot seem to create these two weapons. I've tried homebrew magic items but I cannot set the damage dice to d4. I tried custom action but then I cannot add the +2 bonus to hit.
This is not even taking into account the extra magic attack ability of the sword.
It is not currently possible to change the hit dice on homebrew weapons. What might work is to start off with a weapon that does 1d4 damage. I think you can add an additional 1d4 damage. I know you can change damage type and weapon properties. If you used a dagger as your base, you wouldn't need to change damage type.
That's unfortunate. I was hoping I was just missing something somewhere. I'm hoping its a fix or feature that will be implemented in due time. I'll give your suggestion a try for the time being.
Dagger is a Simple Weapon, Shortsword is Martial, so the proficiencies won’t match. Try instead starting with a Double-Bladed Scimitar and adding Modifier->Ignore Weapon Property; Subtype->Two-Handed. It already is a 2d4 weapon, and I think also already has finesse as well. You can ignore the “special” but for now as it doesn’t work on the character sheet yet anyway, and by the time that gets fixed homebrew nonmagic items should be available since they should both require all the same updates. If you need to you can always add proficiency in that weapon directly on the character sheet too.

Surely I'm missing a way here to do this?
I've attempted and got this. Everything works fine except I cannot change the damage die to 2d4: https://www.dndbeyond.com/magic-items/1658794-chaotic-soul-shard-blade-radiant
