So as the title states, I can't figure out how to make a homebrew spell display an increase of damage at higher levels. Been messing with it for awhile and no luck. Thanks for the help.

I can help. First off is a few questions though. Is it a Cantrip or a leveled spell? What damages are you trying to do? Are you starting with a scratch built spell, or a template? With those pieces of info I can talk (type?) you through it.
I started with a template spell Grease and wanted to make it into Grease Fire to fit one of my players themes. Add 1d4 fire damage for the duration and scale up damage by level.

Something like:
When a creature moves into the spell's area for the first time on a turn or starts its turn there, that creature must succeed on a [Ability] saving throw or take 1d4 Fire damage.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 3rd level or higher, the damage increases by 1d4 for each slot level above 2nd.
I am assuming that since you’re adding damage to a 1st-level spell that you are raising it to 2nd-level. If not, you may have to change some of that language. Okay here goes....
First. Modifiers: “Add Modifier”
Modifier—>Damage
Modifier Subtype—>Fire
Dice Count—>2
Die Type—>d4
SAVE
Second. At Higher Levels: “Add Higher Level”
Scaling Level Value—> 1
Modifier to Scale—> Damage—Fire (1d4)
Scale Effect—>Additional Points
Dice Count—>1
Die Type—>d4
SAVE
Third. At the bottom of “Basic Information” you need:

Thanks I got it to work, I think it was because I had Higher Level Scaling Type as Spell Level and not Spell Scale.
Probably, it’s a common mistake. Took me a while and asking in this forum to figure that out the first time too. Happy to help.
