If one were to create their own DND setting, can they add different races such as minotaurs and leonins (lion people from Theros setting) even though they're from different realms. Would it add unique experiences of a beastfolk kingdom where tabaxis, leonins, and minotaurs coexist in a harmonic way? Or would it break the rules of DND cosmology?
A leonin king dealing with a human-supremacist nation would create a war similar to Wildemount that could be by stealing a nation's artifact or battle for territories.
I'm no expert on how the DND cosmology works, but I would appreciate feedback and thoughts if different races from different settings could be together in a single homebrewed setting.
It’s D&D, go bananas. If you want Leonin and Luxodons in your world then they exist in your world. I have Half Ogres, Half Dwarves, Half Goblins, Half Hobgoblins, Half Gnomes, anthropomorphic dog people, and flying elves with dragonfly wings. The game’s invented put a crashed alien spaceship in his world. I’ve even seen Undead PCs and Grimlock PCs.
Yeah. Most races weren't built specifically for one setting, and can be taken from world to world. There are a few races that are (the ones that come to mind are pallid elves, lotusden halflings, draconbloods, ravenites, warforged, and a few more) can be adapted to your setting. If you come up with a good reason for them to be there, go with it! For instance, warforged could be creations of ancient arcanists instead of soldiers of the Last War.
It's your world. Do whatever you want!
