I am running a game with a slight horror bend, sort of a Curse of Strad Light. I want the characters to encounter an npc merchant with an obsession with masks/faces. I have reskinned some items to be masks but wanted to include some more unique items.
One of which is for the party druid and inspired by a pathfinder item i saw once. Mask of Giants. Unfortunately wildshape and magic items works very differently in 5e so i would like some feedback. I have created two versions of the mask lesser and greater both use one or two uses of wildshape to allow you to use a type of giant form. I think lesser is balanced pretty well compared to animals and elementals players could turn into. Not sure about the greater.
Mask of Giants
Wondrous Item, Uncommon or Rare (requires attunement)
This leather mask depicts a leering humanoid with an oversized nose and ears. If the wearer has the wild shape class feature, the mask allows her to use wild shape to take the form of a giant depending on the mask.
The lesser mask allows the bearer to spend a wild shape to become an ogre, if they are a druid of level 10 or higher can expend two charges to become a hill giant.
The greater mask allows the bearer to spend one wild shape to become a troll, if they are a druid of level 10 or higher can expend two charges to turn into a stone giant.
I was not intending the druid (circle of the moon) to cast spells in giant form and was tempted by saying there mental stats changed to those of the giant. Any thoughts and feedback would be appreciated.
If you make it require Attunement by a Druid you can completely omit the “if the bearer has the wild shape class feature” part.
Change it from 3rd person to 2nd person and you can get rid of all of the “the bearer,” “her,” etc. parts and just say “you” like all of the official magic items do.
IamSposta covered almost everything I was going to say, but I did catch one thing: You mention expending charges, but you don't say how many charges the masks have.

I hope that helps.

Thank you both for the advice. The charges was in reference to wildshape uses will clear that up.
