I'm trying to create a spell which damages a target and heals another at the same time. The idea is to make it add an additional die of damage and healing per every spell level above 3rd, for some reason, however, the spell only scales every third level (6,9) and only scales for the healing die and not the damage die.
The spell is a part of a homebrewed subclass if that makes any difference.
Any ideas about what I've entered wrong in the spell description?
Best thing to do with homebrew is usually to find a spell similar to what you want and copy that, i.e- one of 3rd level that scales, such as Fireball.
If you look at the spell scaling option for that you can see how it's set up:
Sounds like you've probably put 3 for the scaling level value instead of 1; a value of 3 will cause it to scale up every three levels rather than every level.
Former D&D Beyond Customer of six years: With the axing of piecemeal purchasing, lack of meaningful development, and toxic moderation the site isn't worth paying for anymore. I remain a free user only until my groups are done migrating from DDB, and if necessary D&D, after which I'm done. There are better systems owned by better companies out there.
I have unsubscribed from all topics and will not reply to messages. My homebrew is now 100% unsupported.

It has nothing to do with the spell description. To make it work properly you will have to set the modifiers and scaling how you want them to behave.
