Is it possible to copy an existing homebrew subclass to make changes and whatnot without changing the original? Or do you need to manually copy everything into a fresh homebrew subclass?
You need to click/tap on the subclass on my homebrew creations, then on create new version. Not very helpful or easy to find/do, but you can.
Yes, that will make a copy. But if you ever plan to publish your homebrews, the “copy” will eventually overwrite the original and you’re gonna lose it.
Really? If you click on my Homebrew creations (NOT create subclass), then click on the subclass. It should have right next to the name create new version. Will send a screenshot later to show you.

I found the “create new version” button on another homebrew item of mine that IS published. So am I correct in assuming that you need to publish something in order to have access to this feature?
Same, which is why I wanted to be able to do multiple drafts before publishing. But oh well.
You could, but that could also get confusing. I usually just go with what I feel is the “best” version and keep the other ideas in my pocket (Word doc) in case I need to swap stuff. But that’s the kind of thing I usually determine through extensive playtesting.

If it is your own subclass then you, you can use it as a template from which to create a new subclass.
If it is someone else’s then you can not at this time.

It’s one of my homebrew subclasses but it isn’t in the drop down menu for templates to use. Does it need to be published to use as a template?
Well shoot. We used to be able to, but I guess not anymore?

Create new version makes another one when you click on it. Don't click on edit.

I don’t see a “create new version” button anywhere.

Maybe... Honestly, I don't publish most of my stuff now, unless I KNOW it's balanced.
