Hi! So I've been playing Pathfinder and D&D for five years now, and I started using D&D Beyond maybe a year ago. In my current campaign, one of the PCs recently discovered a magical artifact, and, long story short, it's now semi-permanently embedded in her skin and occasionally goes hey how ya doin lil mama let me whisper in ya ear. However, in addition to being irritating, it also has some pretty interesting powers. I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out how to translate the powers/properties I have in mind for this artifact onto D&D Beyond, or if it would be better for me to just keep in mind what the artifact is capable of doing.
So here's what I have:
Once per day, the artifact can be used to cast Dominate Person.
However, if the user does choose to do so, whatever number of hitpoints they have at the moment of casting the spell is immediately halved.
The artifact is aligned with a certain group of people (witches) who are currently a sort of enemy-ish organization in my world. Since the artifact is aligned with them, when the PC who has the artifact tries to attack them, her attacks do half damage.
I've been meddling around with the Homebrew Creation feature and it doesn't seem like there's really any feasible way to have any of these powers/properties be a part of a magic item created on the site (other than the thing about casting Dominate Person). If this is not the case, if any of y'all could help me figure out how to do this that would be very much appreciated!!!
Where you added the spell, at the bottom, there is a field labeled “Details.” In that field put the part about the life drain. It won’t automatically calculate the damage, but if your player cannot divide by 2, I’m sure you can help them.
That third part will have to be just plain txt in the description of the item. There is not way to make that automatic either since the character sheets has absolutely no idea whatsoever who the heck the player is attacking when they hit the button. The DDB character sheet does not support “temporary” or “togleable” or “modal” effects at this time.
