So I'm trying to homebrew around the Superior Technique (UA) that a player wants, can't seem to find it on site so assuming its been archived.
I've so far created and added the feat to the player, successfully. Created the superiority dice limited resource, and the scaling. However I seem to be having a complete failure in trying to 'add' an extra option choices at further levels.
3 Options on taking the feat, with an extra 1 at level 7, and a further 1 at level 12.
Does that make sense? Any help welcomed, thanked, and desperately needed!!!!
That wasn’t archived, the Class Feature Variants have not been implemented yet. The old character sheet couldn’t do the thing. They had to put that on hold until they upgraded the character sheet. Now that the sheet is upgraded the CFVs shouldn’t be too far behind.
Feats aren’t designed to work that way.
Keep in mind, this is a Fighters only Fighting Style, this would replace their regular fighting style. It grants the character the ability to choose 1 and only 1 of the Battle Master’s Maneuvers including the seven new ones from that UA. Regardless of the number of maneuvers they have to choose from, they still only get the 1 choice. This Fighting Style does not grant those extra options that you are asking about.
Superior Technique
You learn one maneuver of your choice from among those available to the Battle Master archetype. If a maneuver you use requires your target to make a saving throw to resist the maneuver’s effects, the saving throw DC equals 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Strength or Dexterity modifier (your choice). You gain one superiority die, which is a d6 (this die is added to any superiority dice you have from another source). This die is used to fuel your maneuvers. A superiority die is expended when you use it. You regain your expended superiority dice when you finish a short or long rest.
Oh I'm aware it replaces the chosen fighting style (played around with ways of trying to remove it, but cannot it seems)
I inherited the campaign from the previous DM, its his homebrew setting which I was a player in, so I took up the mantle when the DM had to step down, gave up my player to keep it running for everyone else!
The PC has a homebrew subclass, (which isnt published, but I feel it needed something a little extra to what was written) and access to these 7 maneuvers seemed to interest the player, and me tbh! I like the added utility for the player and gives me something to work around with more intelligent enemies!
So as a 'feat' its probably way overpowered. But as an addition to the subclass, which is what it is in essence, I feel it should work well!
Thanks for the reply! I'll just have to create 2 updated feats to reflect the changes perhaps, or re-write her entire subclass..... Oo
It would be less work to add the feature to the custom subclass. Subclass features are designed to work that way.
Add the class feature and then create the maneuvers as options under that feature. Under the field “class levels where options known” put “3,3,3,7,12” (assuming that they get this feature at 3rd level) and that will let them choose three maneuvers at 3rd level, another at 7th, and another at 12th.
It would be in some ways, however the subclass is unpublished and owned by the previous DM, on their account. So I have no access to edit it!
It is on my list of many many things to re-do all homebrew instances under my account, including creating the campaign itself so I have full control (muahahaha) over the PC's and their homebrew gear incase of tweaks, such as this
Just need to find time outside of work & world building!!
Gotcha. Even if it were published you could never edit it. In fact, if it were published the original author couldn’t even edit it without jumping through hoops. Maybe the former DM can add the feature since it is their creation? That would cover it until you have time to remake it yourself.
Hi, am I correct in understanding this as you have successfully added a superiority die to his character sheet? If so would you mind explaining how you homebrewed that?

If you make them as separate feats they won’t use the same Die as the original maneuvers.
