This could become something great or it could flop - but let's give it a go and see how we do!
The purpose of this thread is for people with ideas to give them a field test before they use them properly. Got an encounter which you're concerned is too easy or too difficult? Try it out here! Got a character which you're unsure about using for a campaign? Test-run them here! Never DM'ed before and don't feel up to running an entire module? Test out your DMing skills on a single encounter!
This thread works in a simple manner:
Aspiring DM's with ideas to try will post up requesting a party of adventurers to be their guinea pigs for an encounter. They should request the level of players they want, the quantity of players, and the general times they are available to DM the encounter.
Players will then come forward to volunteer to play through an encounter. They should post here and also Direct Message their prospective DM.
When the party is filled, they will work out with themselves when they will run the encounter. The DM can then make a post in the Play By Post Forum and invite their players there to run the encounter (unless they arrange to run it in another way, which is fine).
After the encounter, Players should offer the DM feedback if requested. Please don't play and run if a DM asks for feedback!
Encounters here should be relatively brief. This environment is designed to allow DMs to try out trap rooms, riddles, puzzles, combat encounters, enemy tactics, and get a feel for whether they are too easy or too difficult. Players should go into this expecting that their character might end up on the receiving end of a deadly encounter, and not take the results as lore - It was a dream, or an illusion, or whatever handwaving you like to use to make it that your characters didn't actually die here!
Rules of the DM Training Ground:
Forum rules all still apply!
Don't post if you can't commit. Nobody likes going through character creation and scheduling only to find somebody missing. This applies to DMs and Players alike.
DM Recruitment Posts must include the DM's experience (Experienced/Novice/New), player level, requested number of players, and the DM's Time Zone. Further details such as "available after 5pm UK time any day except Wednesdays" would be perfect and will help to make sure no-one applies for the game and then cannot make it.
When your game is no longer available (either fully recruited or the time window has passed), please go back to your original post and edit it to mark it as closed.
Don't clutter this thread. I will try to keep an eye on it and request mods to clear up any clutter in the thread periodically, but please avoid filling the thread with posts which don't help people to organize their games! If you have a question for a DM or player, Private Message them and they can add the answers to their post if they feel they need to.
Otherwise, Welcome to the DM Training Guild! I hope that this will be a useful resource for you all!
For a more casual experience, there is also a thread in the Forum Games which is more for casual roleplay and features no character sheets and very little dice rolling, where you can drop in and out whenever you please!

How many players you're looking to get (eg. 3-5 players)
What level you want those players to be (EG. level 4)
What times you can run the encounter, and what time zone you're in (EG GMT, EST) so people know if they're available
Then we should hopefully get some people posting on here with their characters, and if enough people post then you can arrange a play-by-post thread and a time & date with them to run the encounter on! If it works for my timezone I'll be up for trying out a character!

This is a good idea. you just need some people to notice it so they can use it.
Yeah.... I’m ready to be a test subject whenever.
Thanks! I hope it'll grow into something which will help people run bits of games rather than whole ones!
I have an encounter I would like to try, currently trying to work out a time slot to test it out on!
