The blades disappear "immediately" after hitting or missing, so I don't believe you would be able to throw it back, but deflection should still work.
So I am going to play devil's advocate because I see both sides.
If you reduce damage to 0 do you really get hit?
The rules seem to define only two states; a hit or a miss. With deflection, it's either a hit that does no damage, or a miss. Either way the blades disappear immediately, therefore, no deflection attack.
So a soulblade throws it's phy blade knife at a monk.
A) can the monk use deflect missiles?
B) if the damage is reduced to 0 can the monk throw it back?
A) Yes.
B) Depends on whose turn it is.
Generally a Soulknife's psychic blades only exist on their turn*. Definitely if they make an attack with it, because after a psychic blade hits or misses, it disappears.
*What happens when the Soulknife take the AttackAction but chooses to shove or grapple? They can manifest the blade, but they neither hit or miss with it, so does it still disappear?

Dwarven Throwers also include the phrase "immediately after hitting or missing", and Sage Advice says that Deflect Missiles works on Dwarven Throwers. According to this official ruling, there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to catch and throw Psychic Blades as a monk using Deflect Missiles.

B) if the damage is reduced to 0 can the monk throw it back?
A) Yes, it's a ranged attack. That's all that matters for deflect missilee.
B) very good question... I'd say it's definitely a DM ruling situation. As Third_Sundering pointed out, you can do it with dwarven thrower. At the same time, it immediately disappears, so how could you throw it back?

I agree with you entirely. If the blade immediately vanishes, how can it be thrown more then once?

This isn't actually a signature, just something I copy and paste onto the bottom of all my posts. Or is it? Yep, it is. Or is it..? No connection to Dragonslayer8 other than knowing them in real life.
Well seeing as the exact wording for the dwarven throwers is it flys back to the hand it’s deferent to sound blades as they disappear after hitting or missing so I don’t think it would work
I still think it’s a DM call. I already asked mine and he said “We ain’t doing that “. Yes we can deflect but he’s in the school of thought of the blade going “poof”. I argued the redirecting aspect and going poof at the person who threw it at you.
You are all to focus on the hit or miss... think of it more as redirecting the blade.
You are the target. If you redirect the blade (by reducing the damage to zero) then it is a miss and the blade vanishes. It can’t go and hit another target. It’s not like a hand grenade where getting close is enough
So a soulblade throws it's phy blade knife at a monk.
A) can the monk use deflect missiles?
B) if the damage is reduced to 0 can the monk throw it back?
Not knowing what a psy blade is, could you tell me if they manifest as energy or physical things? If physical, then it gets treated as any thrown item at the monk. If it is Energy, then only the UA6 Monk can deflect energy attacks.

These are the blades:
Psychic Blades
3rd-level Soulknife feature
You can manifest your psionic power as shimmering blades of psychic energy. Whenever you take the Attackaction, you can manifest a psychic blade from your free hand and make the attack with that blade. This magic blade is a simple melee weapon with the finesse and thrown properties. It has a normal range of 60 feet and no long range, and on a hit, it deals psychic damage equal to 1d6 plus the ability modifier you used for the attack roll. The blade vanishes immediately after it hits or misses its target, and it leaves no mark on its target if it deals damage.
After you attack with the blade, you can make a melee or ranged weapon attack with a second psychic blade as a bonus action on the same turn, provided your other hand is free to create it. The damage die of this bonus attack is 1d4, instead of 1d6.
The blades disappear "immediately" after hitting or missing, so I don't believe you would be able to throw it back, but deflection should still work.
Monk's deflection works against energy attacks? I thought it was limited to physical attacks only.
Waddingsly is correct. The feature, which I quoted in my post above yours, shows that it creates a blade and it is a simple melee weapon (not an energy attack like a spell and the description of the blade is fluff) and you take the attack action. The blade does do psychic damage but it is still a simple melee weapon with the thrown property. So it should be viable for the deflection, but in my opinion, not the throw back.
It works against ranged weapon attacks regardless of damage types.
Does anyone else agree here? I don't see that mentioned in the description.🤔

From the thrown property:
Thrown. If a weapon has the thrown property, you can throw the weapon to make a ranged attack. If the weapon is a melee weapon, you use the same ability modifier for that attack roll and damage roll that you would use for a melee attack with the weapon. For example, if you throw a handaxe, you use your Strength, but if you throw a dagger, you can use either your Strength or your Dexterity, since the dagger has the finesse property.
If it was an energy attack it wouldn’t have weapon properties. But since it does it is a ranged attack that can be deflected
