He digs a nail into the palm of his hand. "I...I could've saved them...."
He leans forward a bit, Theren can see tufts of white fur and some whiskers "From what I have heard, you couldn't have. It was impossible to do so."
There's hands shake as he twists his wedding ring. "I could've....I know I could've...."
Lore holds his hand. The Doctor shakes his head "They were doomed from the start. No human intervention beyond that of a god could've saved them."
Theren's jaw clenches but unclenches quickly, looking defeated. "I...I just miss them.."
"I know you do, and I am sorry for your loss. I understand that this is a situation where it will take awhile to heal from any of this. Perhaps a good start would to be grieve, fully grieve, not in passing."

She holds the deer's heart in her hands, her hands becoming stained with its blood, hesitant for a moment. After a while, her mixture of hunger and morbid curiosity overcomes her squeamishness at the blood, and she very reluctantly takes a small bite. Her teeth cut through the raw muscle almost effortlessly, as though explicitly made for this very purpose. She somewhat slowly begins consuming the rest that is offered to her, picking up in speed as she begins to acquire a taste for it.
Cathcart nods in response, silently thinking of what to do now as he watches the forest outside the Inn.
Merabelle eats slower, but more efficient, consuming parts of the creature whole as they slide down her throat. She watches Omori with that same proud look in her eyes as she tears into the deer carcass.
Sparrow lets him think, silently rocking in the chair next to them, blowing smoke in rings of flaming ash, whistling to himself.
Over the span of a few minutes, Omori has gone from being visibly anxious around the bloody carcass to giddily tearing into the offered flesh with her teeth and nails at a rate matching that of children eating sweets- it'd probably be a horrifying sight to most. After she finishes consuming the deer's lung, she smiles gleefully at Merabelle, her teeth glistening red. "You were right- this stuff's great!" She chirps with childlike enthusiasm. *Congratulations! You gave the child a taste for blood! [throws confetti]*
Cathcart faintly hums to the tune for a second, before stopping himself and going back to contemplating things.
