Felix is at the Rippling Court ball, carving a mouth hole in his metal mask.
With Archduchess Aurelia wrapping up her speech, the ball is now in full swing. The theatre doors are open and there seems to be some sort of magic show going on, like with card tricks, rabbits out of hats, et cetera, but everything is turned up to the extreme.
Archduchess Aurelia is mingling with the guests, and sees Felix. She kindly waves, and twirls over to him. “Welcome! it is a pleasure to have you here! If I remember correctly, you came from that town in the mortal world? What was it called? Gah, seems it left my mind… no matter, you’re here now! How are you enjoying yourself?” Despite being a supposed archduchess, she is very theatrical, like a stage performer.
He stops filing at the metal helm and looks up at her. "I've never been to a place like this before, so I didn't know what to expect. I didn't have anyone to bring as a plus-one, since my best friend has neither the anatomy for formal wear nor masks. Overall, I'm... well, I'll be completely honest, I don't really know what to do. My family held balls a little like this all the time, but they never let me participate. I don't know the etiquette or understand the art culture. I feel... left out. I don't know, that's probably too much information."
“Oh dear… it seems I hadn’t thought of that, I am terribly sorry! Say, what if I bring you up to my balcony in the theatre? The next act of the magic show is starting, I think you might like it.” She seems genuinely concerned, and also a bit unsure of what to say at times.

She looks to Brynn. “You aren’t from the rippling court, are you?”
the soldier’s right leg has some horrific scar on it, like a burn or acid. She’s discussing something with the servants, before noticing Paia and giving her a strange look.
"No." brynn is frustrated that she isn't being left alone. Paia backs off, looking away and whistling
*just gonna boink this*
*oops, sorry!*
”knew it. You’re lucky you get to attend one of these things…” she mutters.
the soldier chuckles slightly, turning back to her conversation.
*time to write a big thing!*
"I wouldn't call it lucky. My silly friend waved her magic wand and dragged me here. I couldn't care less for parties, though a warm drink is always nice. But paia missed all of the frills, I suppose."
“Ungrateful…” she mutters beneath her breath.
She grumbles, clearly offended. "I'll have you know I—" Paia interrupts her, startling her from behind. Brinn unclinches her hand from the steak knife she grabbed out of instinct. *the check?*

”you’ll have me know what?”
*oooooo* "Nevermind." Some kind of illusion seems to be surrounding the two, most likely connected to an object. If you squint hard enough, you'll see that their fine clothes aren't really there. Paia wears a simple blue dress and brynn is in a tattered military jerkin. The only thing that seems to be real is their masks.
Realizing this, she is a bit confused. “W-… what are you even wearing?”
Brynn elbows Paia and the spell gets stronger, and the two are in their fine clothes once again. They both have different, simultaneous answers to the question "It was her idea" "Clothing!"
“I-… you didn’t even bother to wear any fine clothes…”
"I can explain!" paia whisper-shouts. "We didn't have any on hand, so magic was our best option. But I assure you, I was invited." she pulls out her invitation and shows it to the lady. Sure enough, the letter is addressed to Paia Andrash. *SPOILER DO NOT READ EXCEPT FOR ARCHFEY*
Princess Paia Andrash.
“I-… oh.” She pales a bit. “I’m terribly sorry…” she gets up, suddenly anxious.
"It's fine. The information on the letter is a little... Outdated." she sits down and begins to talk.
"My country was locked in a ten-year war. And It lost. So no, I'm not a princess anymore. You can't be a princess if your kingdom no longer exists." she smiles sadly, laughing through the irony
Brynn's defensive manner melts for a bit and gives way to something that might be remorse
She sits down again, not making a sound. “I-I’m… I’m so sorry. I- I had no idea-“

I haven't actually been allowed to attend a magic show before, so I'm curious to see what creates all the joy and awe I keep hearing. I accept your offer." An insight check can be made.

“Wonderful!” She takes Felix’s hand, guiding him through a hallway of grand architecture, next to where the theatre’s back wall would be. She opens a large door, leading to a small staircase. She holds the door for Felix, before following him up the steps to a high balcony, overlooking the grand theatre. The theatre can seat upwards of three thousand, and the stage, with dark red curtains, had just closed on a previous performance. The crowd erupts into applause. ”you know, I’m often the one on that stage, I’ve always loved acting.”

She nervously chuckles again. “I-I’m… going to head to the ballroom… it was a p-pleasure talking to you.” She does a little bow, before rushing up the stairs of the Atrium to the actual ballroom, which neither of them have visited yet.
He claps for her. "You're a better singer than I am. I'm sure no one would mind if you helped me perform on the radio once or twice. You can consider your self-imposed debt paid in services rendered if you're up for that."
“I’m sure I’d be happy ta help, but my voice ain’t nothin’ special.” She says, if she could blush from the compliment she would be, smiling softly before telling everyone they still have work to do “If ya’d have me on that radio show o’ yers I’d sing with ya.”
"Thanks, Merabelle! I've picked out some potential songs. My voice isn't built for country music, so I hope you'll be okay with other genres."
“I just like singin’ anythin’ I can. I’m just happy I get the chance ta help ya with somethin’ o’ mine.” She takes the minced vegetables, putting them on another table for cooking.

One short trip up the stairs and she finds herself in a magnificent ballroom. Carved entirely of of what seems to be a singular continuous piece of marble, it is heavily decorated with mosaics of the sea, of the Archduchess, and of the symbol of the court: a balanced scale. With a balcony of its own on the other side of the room, two staircases on either side spiraling up to it, a main sort of dance floor area and a place for a band, currently playing a cheery room. It’s so opulent, so heavily decorated, colorful, and expensive looking, it’s simply the most magnificent room to look at. She looks down and realizes something just before she sets foot in the room: there is no floor. It’s a twenty foot deep pool of water. She hadn’t realized yet because the thirty or so in the ballroom dancing are walking right on the water as if it were a solid.

It doesn’t seem solid at first, causing a little ripple, but as she takes a full step it bends a small bit to support her weight, and it holds firm. It’s somewhere inbetween a trampoline and an ice skating rink, but the dancers make it look flawless. Paia gets the feeling if she falls, the water tension will break and she’ll sink.

"Fine." she huffs "If you ever get done sulking, I'll be in the ballroom dancing the night away" and she heads to the ballroom with an excited giggle

*Hey man, I might not be able to do this right now. I'm not doing good and I just have no mental energy to do this. I'm sorry.*

*buh bye! I hope we can continue this tomorrow, I’m actually enjoying where this is going*
“You are too kind, I bet you’ll love it.” She says, holding a fake smile. As she turns away to survey the stage, her face changes to a frown of concern, disappointment, and a little bit of anxiousness.
*by the way, random notes, the rippling court and it’s city has like, 1800s level technology and is like, vaguely steampunk*
*Dont be sorry, just take care of yourself. We can always just do it another time. It’s more important that you are doing good. We can continue tomorrow, that’s what I planned anyway.*
*GASP!* THE ORATRICE MECHANIQUE D'NALYSE CARDINALE!*
Paia takes one tentative step out onto the water's surface, holding her breath

It doesn’t seem solid at first, causing a little ripple, but as she takes a full step it bends a small bit to support her weight, and it holds firm. It’s somewhere inbetween a trampoline and an ice skating rink, but the dancers make it look flawless. Paia gets the feeling if she falls, the water tension will break and she’ll sink.
