So, Algernon Never.
He was there from the beginning. He was the carver. The butcher. The man who dissected great ones and beasts. He had always aspired not to join the Great Ones or the Hunters, but Master Willem. He wanted to save people, and in his mind education was the way to do it. Of course, once the beastly scourge began, his priorities had to change dramatically.
His parents weren't rich, but they had enough money to get by working as physicians. Algernon was always a good (if erratic) student, and had a feeling for meat since his childhood. As a resident of Hemwick Charnel Lane, he already had an interest in the occult, so his parents saved up enough to send him to Byrgenwerth to further his grim studies. Because of his unique skillset, they asked him to heal the tomb prospectors and perform any autopsies they needed done.
However, he didn't have enough money to eat regularly despite working directly for the college. He got extra credit, but no salary. So he made some... questionable eating decisions regarding the subjects of his studies. However, this led him to a great discovery: the Dredge, a reagent of great corruption that could do almost anything given the right input. It couldn't rival the Blood in healing, but it was filled with nutrients of such quality and variety that some were found nowhere else on earth. In its natural state, it couldn't rival a silver bell or a familiar in magical power, but when processed properly it could create psuedo-spirits that could function similarly. The cost of using this medium, however, was its tendency to have.. unintended side effects. To reality.
He has a stomach of iron, the mind of a master, and some severe mutations that he doesn't like to talk about. He's easily excited, stubborn, and optimistic about the future despite everything getting exponentially worse as time goes on. He barely know how to fight, isn't all that good at healing, and is generally just a mad scientist who harnesses forces outside of his control. But he's here, and that's what matters.

*I made Flint Lockwood as a Bloodborne OC. He's not as mechanically inclined, but he is still a mad scientist. Like, occult mad scientist, using forces way, way outside his control in an attempt to save Yharnam. He's very optimistic about the horrors he's unleashing despite both history and recent developments basically saying that everything he founded his research on is not to be meddled with.*
