Finn drops his bag as his eyes scan his village. Not a soul was here and he could feel a feeling of dread creep up his spine and bore into his heart. He shuddered and raced up to the houses, throwing them open. Each one was ransacked with no sign of life within them.
He ran to his old house and kicked the door open, pulling out his dagger as if he was ready for a monster to be on the other side. Nothing was there, and that was more terrifying to him.
“Mom!? Dad?! Angie!? Sprig?!” he called out. No reply made him shudder again as if a cold wind had blown past him. He raced through the house, looking for any sign to what had happened. He slowed down to the window facing the goat pastured. Each goat was lying on its side, dead.
He had no idea what had happened. It couldn’t have been orcs, they would’ve have taken the goats to eat and there would be signs of fights. It couldn’t have been raiders because items like food and supplies were still there as well.
Finn was stumped as he sat on a crate, placing his face in his hands. “Gods, where are you?” he asked as he raised his face towards the sky as if asking the cosmos. Nothing told him the secret he was longing to hear. He was alone.
The door opens as an amber-haired halfling opened the door. He had a fair-skinned kiddish face that was set with deep brown eyes that were flecked with silver. Those eyes belie a soul infused with intelligence years beyond what he looks like. He wears a long-sleeved black shirt, simple leather armor, a leather belt with a silver buckle, beige breeches, a sheath around his thigh with a dagger within it, and simple leather boots. He carries a backpack around one shoulder that has a short-sword in a sheath poking out. On his hip, attached to the belt, is a pack with thieves’ tools.
He brushes some of his amber hair out of his eyes and walks over to the bar “One room please” he asks. The clerk gives him a key that he promptly sticks in his back pocket. He then goes and takes his things upstairs.
After awhile, he walks back down and begins to work on a small treasure chest with a golden latch.
