"The suffering, The suffering, The suffering, The suffering..."
Music begins to play from a nearby city. It isn't overwhelmingly loud, yet it is still clearly audible even from here. A dark spiral begins to form in front of the sun, suffocating the light and turning the skies blood red. Dark, spectral, metallic-smelling threads flow in the wind, leading to the source of the music.
"Upon your homes, my angels creep I send the wounds that never heal Into your dreams, into your sleep Until you break, until you yield!"
Screams nearly drown out the music as the blood floods the streets. But life isn't ending there... it is changing.
"I raise the dead, I bring the end, Thus saith the Red!"
The Eclipse bares down on the earth, filled with hate... and calling something dreadful. Its black, sticky ichor drips down to the earth, and horrors from beyond begin to rise from the inky puddles. Corpses begin to rise, possessed by the dark force.
"I send the pain, I send the change I send the nightmares out in waves Until the bodies rise from graves And there is nothing left to raze!"
Monsters begin to make their way toward the forest that divides the city from the town and the Inn as the umbral threads drift through the village, guiding the beasts to further carnage.
"I have yet bled, I rain black lead, Thus saith the Red!"
*For the duration of the encounter, the following rules apply outside the tavern: Healing always rolls max. All natural dim light becomes darkness. Failing a wisdom saving throw induces Short-term madness. Dismemberment is possible, but it is unlikely and not permanent. Instant-kill effects are disabled (even severing a head won't instantly kill), as are abilities that banish creatures.*

Meroving/Ani goes to investigate, trying to find the source
As they move through the forest to get to the city, they encounter what looks to be a massive werewolf with a blindfold. It wields a massive, cleaver-like weapon studded with eyes.
Jackson stands on a rock, watching the beast with a look of disgust. He grips his staff and makes his way down, following after it.
The beast he encounters looks like a tentacled statue made out of petrified humanoids. It passively faces him, not attacking, just observing.
He observes it back, his blind eyes staring at it.
A hunter, are you? And a mage? What a mess you've been caught up in.
"I am always in a mess, this is just another day." He said. "What about you?"
I cannot say I feel the same. We angels have had to wait for hundreds of years for someone to play one of Henryk's Cylinders, and it turns out it was on the wrong plane. I'm stuck here now. All I can hope is that one of the larger angels comes and picks me up.

"You have my sympathy. I know it is hard to be trapped somewhere you cannot escape." He said and tilted his head "You do not smell like an angel."

He hears footsteps and crackling flames, along with the smell of cooking meat. Something is approaching him from behind. I am stone, filled with the Blacklight's blood. It gives life to those who need it most. Perhaps it will heal your sense of smell. I am an angel, and of that there is no doubt.

"My nose does not lie. I am sorry if these words have offended you, that was not my intention, but I trust my senses until I am old and gray." He said, not turning around. His hand reaches up as he pulls out one of his eyes. It disappears into liquid hitting the ground (Arcane Eye Spell so he can see behind him.)

A massive humanoid, a giant, perhaps, with a crucible on its back and a serene, golden mask on its face stands behind him, its mass-produced greatsword plunged into the ground. Multiple severed arms reach out of the crucible, fresh and twitching. It gestures for him to hold out his hand.
Perhaps you simply have a limited view of what an angel is. One of us is wrong in some capacity. Now, weren't you doing something important?

"Ah. Yes, I was. Thank you for reminding me." He said. He makes a complicated gesture and an Arcane Hand made from raw flesh and sinew forms in the air. "I am afraid I have to stop you. I sincerely mean it when I say I am sorry that I have to do this."
