*I'm working on a new character for my campaign since Felix is the most mechanically uninteresting character I've ever had to play. He gives everyone an entire extra PC worth of temporary hit points on a long rest and then basically does nothing for the rest of the game. Right now I'm thinking a Battle Master fighter focused into support combined with Necromancer wizard. I call it the Karrnathi General build.*
*I'm not sure what to do with the character themselves, though. I have already decided that in place of an army, they have a big, scary artillery piece, so that should probably factor in.*
*I really like that idea for a character. I could see them filling a sort of 'Tactician' or 'Chessmaster' role in the party, using their Maneuvers to help the party and their undead summons get an advantage. Though, still being a fighter, they could easily jump into the fray and hack-and-slash at the monsters themselves if they deemed it necessary. As for backstory or character traits, I have one possible idea- maybe they were a renowned general or warlord from a time long past, but something happened, and now they're undead and existing in a time long after the fall of their empire. So they're trying to build up enough resources and support to bring the empire back: or at least, make sure it's legacy is remembered.*
*That's very interesting. I was thinking that I might want to stay away from military themes, but they are a fighter so it's probably inevitable. Perhaps they were the sherrif (captain of the guard) in a big city, mixing wizardry with martial prowess and superb tactics. Maybe when they came back, they found the city they served no longer needed them (possibly because it was destroyed), and so they brought their even deader deputy with them to go adventuring.*
*Man, I feel dead inside and I don't feel like therapy, so new character time. If anyone wants to rp, I'll be here.*
The sound of light footsteps can be heard, carried on the wind along with the brief sound of what seems to be breaking glass. In the distance comes a new arrival, a wood elf, looking like a young adult. He is strong and lean, like a professional swimmer or a martial artist. He is wearing a traditional sleeveless sky blue combat gi with black detailing, soft black parachute pants, and no shoes. His long curly brown hair covers his eyes, the color of warm hazelnut piercing through. He holds his arms behind his back, clasping them together. He has a soft smile on his face, the sound of glass repairing as he seems to walk through a gate made of pure space. He walks on mud, although his feet do not sink, as if he's walking on the very mud like it was solid ground. He takes a moment, stopping to look at his surroundings before heading into town.
*Any takers? If not, still just here.*

She steps out from the dark slightly, becoming visible as she does. What can be seen of her (unless he has darkvision) is limited to the brim of her large sunhat, the faint glimmer of metallic armor and claws, and her luminous stand-ins for actual eyes. She waves back with a hand with long metal claws that shimmer with what looks like blood.

*I have one idea that might be fun. Given their background, I could see them being a 'Mama/Papa Bear' type who looks out for the rest of the party and keeps them out of trouble (or tries to, anyway). It might be rooted in some deep-seated guilt as well, which could be interesting for character dynamics- maybe they feel like they failed because while they were dead, they couldn't protect the people they cared about, so they're trying to make sure that doesn't happen again.*
