The invisible something feels a small, also invisible form bump into it.
The thing loses concentration, causing it to become visible.
It appears to be a small, red, horned creature, something like a large imp or a small, odd-looking tiefling. It has large, catlike yellow eyes, and dresses in what appears to be a blood-splattered waiter's uniform. It carries a large book with it.
"I-I'm so sorry, I didn't see you there!"
The thing that bumped into the imp-tiefling thing turns visible, and they see that it's a little imp (strange, there were two imps, kinda, that ran into each other). "Oh, no, that's my fault," it says in a raspy little voice, before flying over to a shadar-kai (Rani) who is sitting at a table. "Who are you?" Rani asks the newcomer.
The imp-thing calms down quickly. "My name is Carokas 'Sweet' Cruorsus. I am a chef, magician, bartender, and former hotel manager, and I have had about 300-odd years to perfect my skills." It sounds like they've said this exact thing before. "I can demonstrate, if you wish."
"Demonstrate away, then!" Rani says, interested.
*Back!*
Carokas nods and smiles. Several humanoid figures start rising from the ground like broken marionettes behind him. He walks away as they finish rising from the floor, and the strange figures, dressed in burned, tattered waiter's uniforms and expressionless masks, follow him behind the bar.
What follows is a spectacle of flipping and chopping and pouring and shaking, with the assistants doing clean-up and prep while the imp mixes drinks and cooks splendid-looking food.
The result: a colorful, layered cocktail in vivid, sanguine colors and dull greys and blacks, the glass rimmed with sugar, and a plate of beautifully sliced meat, complete with an odd, coral-like decorative disc, seemingly melting into gravy on the way down.
Rani looks very impressed, and compliments the imp. "Have you done this before?"
"Every day for three hundred years. I've served angels, fey, demons, and devils. I come from a city in Maladomini called Grenpoli, which is basically the poor man's city of Sigil. Creatures from across the planes come to visit, and all weapons are banned."
"Sounds like a nice society."
"Maladomini is in hell."
"Oh. Well, still, if there is the variety of creatures that you say there is, then it must be exciting, to say the least."
"Only if you aren't cooped up in a hotel for your entire life. I've had to deal with an incredible amount of entitlement because as it turns out, powerful creatures don't think too highly of an imp in the service industry."
"I bet they don't. My familiar here, he's an imp. I am greatly in his debt. And yes, power leads to feelings of entitlement, which makes me proud of my patron. They are quite powerful themselves, but respectfully recognizes us lower beings, and forms alliances with us."
"That's pretty rare. You must be pretty lucky to find such a patron."
"Extremely! And I'm not just saying that so they don't strike me down, or anything like that."
