A human enters the inn, tossing a wrapped spherical object into the air in one hand. He has tanned skin, blue eyes, and short brown hair with stubble dotting his face. A scar runs past one of his eyes, but it sems like it didn't harm the eye. He wears an outfit of studded leather armor that seems to have a few arcane sigils scratched into it. At his side is a Fox steel defender made from scraps of metal, though its motions are fluid, if slightly stuttery at times. They step over to the bar, setting the object in their hands down on the counter, "How much can i get for this?"
The ever-smiling innkeeper slides over and unwraps the object.
"Ah! A Demolisher eye! Used by the Old Country's machines to detect fertile land so that their terraforming left the land livable. These are usually used in agricultural automatons these days. This is worth about... 70 Hearts (Platinum)."
The innkeeper leans over to look at the man's steel defender. "Quite an interesting bit of dark technology you've got there. Where'd you find the parts for something like that?"
"I sometimes bought them, sometimes i found something compatible in an old wreck." He says, patting the fox on its head, "My only companion on the long days i spend out scavenging."
He nods, "I'll take that price."
"Do you want to buy the eye, or is there somewhere else i can sell it?"

Clint looks up, "What is it? Seeing the likes of someone like you I doubt it's purpose is as kind as what the barkeep says."
"COnsidering it came from something called a demolisher, it could have some destructive capabilities, like a lazer. But its currently used to help farmers it seems."
"And where did you come across this item? Legally I assume?"
"I see it as legal. Nobodies going to use it where i got it from"
Clint smiles a little, "So you see it as legal... What do they call you?"
"I'm Krieg," He smirks, "If you need some of that old tech, its how i make my living." He says, offering a hand, "Scarlett here is actually powered by one of the old power cores. Near limitless energy if messed with a little."
He grins, "Clint, nice to meet you. Scarlett is this mechanation? Did you make them?"

"Have you not been outside the walls?"
*imma guess theres walls around the settlements?*
*Also, gotta brb*
*It depends on what state you're in.
There are three states in Greyland: The Slog, The Snare, and The Capitol State. The Capitol is mostly tamed, so they tend to have steel fences and neighborhood watchmen to protect their towns. The Snare is extremely hostile and filled to the brim with monsters, but metal is uncommon, so their settlements are protected by thick wooden walls with sentries and spotlights. The Slog doesn't have that many monsters, but the environment itself is hostile enough that most people live underground in the muck.
This specific Fesh Inn is in an opportune location between all three states, placed in the Capitol but less than a mile off from The Slog and The Snare.
TLDR, most of the time.*

*A lot of terrible things. This is a grimdark setting, after all.
First of all, there are nightmares. They are more playful than malicious and are banished by bright light, but get on their bad side and, well... you won't live to see the dawn.
Second, there are mutants. Formerly normal animals and people, dark forces, typically the Sovereign, have corrupted them into horrific monsters, often defying basic natural law in their construction.
Third, there are the automatons. The Old Country sent them over to terraform Greyland and slaughter the inhabitants, but the continent fought back. Now, driven mad and desperate for fuel, these machines terrorize the wilds, eager to wreak havoc upon all life.
Fourth, is the Dark Circle. A powerful, secretive organization of black magic users that use wax to create constructs. These constructs can look like anything, from coins to people. No one knows what the Circle wants, but everyone knows that they aren't exactly the good guys.
Fifth, religious orders. The Church of Divine Light is the heart of innovation and is trusted by the public, but destroys anything and anyone that doesn't fit their standards of "normality." Even worse is the Cult of the Maw, a group that is united only in the belief that they as individuals are the only real people, and that if they bring about the end of the world, they will live forever as demons.

*Modern constructs are a significant departure from old machines. Newer constructs are usually made by binding a spirit into an otherwise normal automaton. Plus, the ancient constructs sent by the Old Country have a lot of parts that need special maintenance to recycle in any way, and the parts needed to maintain them in that way have been lost for centuries.*

*True. From my knowledge, the best you could salvage from something like that would be the power source, but you'd need to hook it up to something either through an adaptor or something with a similar port :p*

*Yep. I mess around with old scrap parts and batteries as a hobby. So basically, if these are anything like irl tech, they would be forward compatible with some work, but not backwards compatible without SOOOOO much more work than it would be worth. Like, you could use a battery to power something from the future, but you wouldn't be able to use our modern computers with the storage of the first computers.*
