"The second one. They are very mercurial. In fact, here's a tidbit of history about the holiday:
Long, long ago, on the night of the year when spirits are strongest, one village put out tribute on their front porches to satisfy the nightmares. The next year, the spirits went door to door, demanding similar tribute from others. Eventually, some kids decided to dress up in cheap spirit costumes to demand tribute as well, in the form of candy. The spirits, amused by this prank, then started disguising themselves as children disguising as spirits and demanding similar tribute. Nowadays, it's impossible to tell whether it's a spirit or a child knocking at your door, so we give them toys and sweets anyway. It's no just for ritual; it's for safety."

From the decaying, brown, dead leaves swirling outside of the Hold, a Pale figure emerges. everything besides their eerie face was concealed by a cloak fashioned from leaves of all colors, constantly shifting as the brown leaves fall and are replaced by new ones, which wither away again within minutes. they enter the tavern, smiling, revealing an Otherworldly light illuminating their dark face.
*i love fey*
A hooded human (Atleas they look like one) watches them from a distance, their glowing eyes being the only dissernable feature in their shrouded hood
the figure walks over to the "Human". "Excuse me sir, could you please tell me where this is?" they asked in a hypnotic, sweet voice.
"Its the nightmare hold." He replys, his voice sounding raspy like it hadn't been used in a while, "Ravenloft in specific, but i suspect you figured that" they seem confused at the sorta hypnotic touch to their voice
"Finally! I didn't think i'd ever arrive, even with a talisman." he started to look around. "Cheerier than i expected, but it'll do. so, what brings you here?"
"I have my business here." He says, petting the head of a pitch black doberman that sits at his side, "What do you mean by a talisman?"
he holds up a small coin. "trinkets from domains of dread. the objects always find their way back, and some people use them to go to specific domains, as it can take it with them. i have quite a few."
"Coins huh?" He says, holding up a iron coin of his own, "Seen one of these before?" He asks curiously
"well, not just coins. pretty much anything relatively small and inanimate. also, i haven't seen an iron coin before."
"I see" He nods, *Want to make a religion check? also, what languages do they know?
*they know common elvish and sylvan*
religion check: 10
They can vaguley recall a similar coin in stories of a ferry-man that takes the dead to their next life or afterlife. Hard to remember
"Oh wait, doesn't that coin have something to do with the afterlife? I thought it might have looked familiar, or maybe it just reminded me of cold iron."
"Yes, its something like that." He nods.
"where did you get it?" they asked.
"I was payed in a couple of these. Turns out they can be pretty valuable to the right city or pub."
"Interesting. are they just regular non-magical coins?"
"thats a secret" He says with what might have been a wink
"ooh, tell me more. seriously, i need to know."
"Lets start with names." He offers an outstretched skeletl hand, "I'm Thanatos,"
"Esper." he shakes their hand. Esper's hand feels suspicously like leaves and bark.

The poltergeist bartender holds up a "hand." The edgy music stops.
The phantom places down a shot glass full of wine in front of the rat.
The music resumes.
Lets just say the rat goes swimming. After a while the rat squeaks at you.
A silk white hand wearing a top hat and a bow tie strolls in. It grabs the rat, drags it to the floor, and together the dance a tango around everyone's feet. Then, a little while later, they stop, and have what looks like a argument. The rat squeaks nasty, and the hand makes (Insert hand noises here.) After a few seconds, the hand pulls out a tiny tiny pistol from a invisible holster on its hip (wrist) and aims it at the rat.
The Master jumps and runs over. "HEY HEY! Please take any violence outside."
The hand aims his antimatter mini pistol between your eyes. He then slowly backs into the games room, pistol always aimed at your forehead. The rat attempts to bite one of your toes, and then scurry's off to have a look around the catacombs.
