The story is getting darker and more epic! I also was just thinking about using ki to sense disturbances the other day! Totally stole the idea and improved on it from my first one.
Hah! Yeah - when I think of Monks, I think of Jedis. So Ki is like The Force.
Question: Do you have any long-standing D&D friendships? Meaning, are there people you've met through D&D that you are still friends with years later?
I'm curious how many groups are just gaming acquaintances versus pre-established friend groups versus people who became friends through playing together. I started playing with friends (and mutual friends who became friends), but since COVID I've mostly played with strangers online. Some of those have become really good friends. I'm curious if that happens more often or if that's super rare.
Yes, twice. So one - my (ex) boss' wife used to work on EverQuest - and a few years back we started playing Project 1999 (which is EverQuest prior to all the latest expansions - so back when it was hard). They'd brought someone named Anita into it (who I didn't know). We'd played Project 1999 for a year or two, and so Anita and I became Facebook friends. A few years prior to COVID, I saw she posted a picture of a wooden DM screen similar to mine. I asked if she was playing D&D - and she said she was. She asked if I played, and I said I'd been playing for like ever. She asked if I'd DM for her friends. I immediately agreed. We began playing D&D monthly - and what was great is they all knew Anita - but some of them didn't know one another - and D&D brought us all together and made us incredible friends. One of the players from that game, has become, probably one of my closest friends of late.
And then my other - ironically - (ex)boss - he invited me to his game he was running (Storm King's Thunder) - and the group he was DMing for was people he grew up with in High School and all of that - and I came in as the new guy. Was certain I was going to feel like the outsider - but they immediately made me feel welcomed, and now we game once a month (we just finished SKT, and we're starting a new campaign for Dragonlance). And we all keep in touch via text quite frequently.
With the return of DeadpanC_C how could I not write a story that focused on his return? [snip] TO BE CONTINUED?
Awesome story (not just saying that because it focuses on me). Definitely making a character based on my leonin.
Hah! That would be cool. I enjoy taking things that happen in this thread and finding some weird way to tie it into the random story.
I have zero plans of where this is going... Like the whole "I see" Quar1on said in the story originally was a joke for him to say, "Oh, icey! Not I see!" It was just meant to be a funny line.
Then Deadpan you came back - and so I thought how the Manticore has lion features - maybe he's cursed? A secret passage in the cave - and an icy heart?
What did you think of the D&D direct? Personally I thought it was kinda disappointing. The Minecraft monsters are odd, but I'll probably reskin the stat blocks and use them in my campaign. Was expecting some more info about Planescape or the Phandelver campaign, but hey. The highlight of the stream for me was definitely the JoCat segment, his animations are always superb.
Also I was 100% correct about the Vecna thing. Feels great.
One of my players in my campaign plays minecraft and turns everything into it, I’m teaching him there are other things in life. The minecraft s stats aren’t helping my cause.

Just explain to him that D&D and Minecraft are very different things, and that if he's a player, he shouldn't go around reading monster stat blocks.
I feel like it was a desperate move my Microsoft to become relevant again.
Microsoft is relevant. Minecraft recently became the most successful video game franchise in the world. And I doubt Microsoft had any direct control over the stat blocks themselves, beyond making a corporate deal with WotC/Hasbro. And even so, why exactly does it matter?

They got Jocat to do something for em? Now this I do wanna see.
Also I was 100% correct about the Vecna thing. Feels great.
What thing?
List one good thing they have made that is popular in the last 3 yrs. Also I mostly don’t like them cuz they gonna buy blizzard :c poor World of Warcraft.
I'm excited for D&D meeting Minecraft. I don't really play the game much at all, but perhaps this will get me to try it out again and see how it goes (which perfectly accomplishes the goal of the partnership). I doubt that the game is trying to become uber-relevant again, only to boost the amount of users and people who might potentially pay money.
I was unable to make it through all of the D&D Direct video, though I might try and watch a bit more of it. I already read some of the summary anyways.
Here's a question:
How excited are your for Honor Among Thieves? I personally wish I had been able to watch it earlier, since all the trailers and stuff are looking quite epic.

I just quickly skimmed the video, and I think Bigby's giant book looks cool. I have always enjoyed giants, and if they are able to add more cool giant lore and stuff then I will be happy. The rest of the stuff doesn't interest me too much, I don't play minecraft and I won't be buying giant dolls. That digital map thingy looks cool, but as I have said, I am technologically challenged.
I think that they're still relevant, it's just that they've become the plaything of the next generation. I am including gen z in that because they're currently spread between 20's and I think 10 or 12.
Just watched it, seems interesting. I'm liking what I'm seeing. The Minecraft statblocks are pretty cool, especially the enderman. Teleporting 20 feet every single time it takes any damage feels like it would make a super hectic battle. The creeper isn't much of a threat on its own, but toss a few into a random battle and they could add quite a bit of strategic depth to positioning and such, or stick a few together and they could start charging each other (it's a bit weird that their explosions do lightning damage, but whatever). I don't know why they just decided to include the normal-ass wolves, like they don't already have statblocks.
The snippet of the VTT was pretty cool, even though the image of everybody sitting around the table and just looking at their devices was pretty unnerving. I like that the limits are there, and that it reminds you of them, but it's easy enough to subvert them and just do something outside of the rules. It gives hope that the end product will be easily customizable and accepting of homebrew, especially since it can be integrated with Beyond. The dice being physical objects that can move around on the tabletop was really neat. For extra authenticity, it would be sweet if the dice that you throw could knock over miniatures.

Look at what you've done. You spoiled it. You have nobody to blame but yourself. Go sit and think about your actions.
Don't be mean. Rudeness is a vicious cycle, and it has to stop somewhere. Exceptions for things that are funny. Go to the current Competition of the Finest 'Brews! It's a cool place where cool people make cool things.

It has been three days since I found this book. When it was on its pedestal, I couldn’t believe my eyes. It was levitating! Purple light surrounded it almost like magic. I thought it was some kind of illusion. Magic is only a myth!
Oh, but it is so much more.
What the! Who are you?
I am the spirit trapped in this book. I am so glad you grabbed it. Now we can begin the prophecy.
What prophecy?
The one that says that a dwarf from a time where magic has become a distant memor…
Wait, WHAT!?!?!?! That green light when I touched you. Did that make me TIME TRAVEL?!?!?!
First off, I am not the book. I am a spirit in the book. Secondly, yes, you are in the past. Thirdly, it is quite rude to interrupt somebody when they are answering your question. Perhaps you can survive a few days without me telling you what to do.

I have been on a journey. At first, I was dubious. Then cautiously optimistic when the first trailer dropped. Initial reviews have me abandoning caution and diving headlong into full excitement. Let's do this rollicking fantasy romp.
Plus, this is a great way for me to spread the gospel of D&D to my heathen coworkers, all of whom know I have a "D&D ball thing" (a d20) in my office and an untempered love for this hobby. If it's a good movie, imma use it as a gateway to convert them.

Hi, I’m DrakenBrine, here’s my Sig and characters
I am The Grand Envisioner!
Heh - well, there's only a few parts, so far. It's pretty silly.

I'd be flattered if you took anything out of this story and used it for D&D.

I have a very, very, very strange mind...
