DrakenBrine’s getting more lines. Also what is this obsession over LordofDND?
Well, LordofDND’s the only one who hasn’t been posting for a long time. It’s a bit suspicious I suppose… Maybe there’s something going down in private messages…
Aye - as mentioned in the previous segment - he'd sent me a message asking if he could be included... and since he was the ones assigning class and race to folks, I asked what he wanted to be - and he said everything (so that's why the previous segment goes over every class he has access to) - and I decided, on my own, to also basically make him multiple species as well... just for the silliness of it all. (All of that was explained in the previous installment) :D
I like Amnon’s lines. They’re very representative of me as a person. There’s a little less sarcasm but I think that’s because I try to tone all that back when I’m online. Now I’m just seeing this orc grinning as he confounds Sposta or Drakenbrine with a paradox as AEDorsay stands to the side, having understood it the moment that Amnon finished telling them about it.
LOL! Glad people are digging the silliness of it all.
“… and he didn’t like snakes,” Drakenbrine said, with a wide smile.
“So it was a pit of snakes?” AEDorsay asked, running her hand through her hair, revealing her elven ears. She had been studying her spellbook, but Drakenbrine’s story had caught her attention.
“Yes! Hundreds of them!” Drakenbrine said.
“What did they eat?” she asked matter-of-factly. “I mean, if they were in this pit. They had no way out, like your grandfather.”
“Great, great grandfather,” Drakenbrine corrected.
“You said grandfather when we were leaving the manticore,” AEDorsay raised an eyebrow.
“You guys were leaving, so I just said grandfather real quick,” Drakenbrine said.
“I see,” AEDorsay looked back at her book, and asked without looking up, “that still leaves the question of what these hundreds of snakes ate? If they too were trapped in this pit, they would have not had anything to feed upon. Certainly not enough to sustain hundreds of snakes.”
Drakenbrine shrugged. “I am not sure. You see he climbed his way out by using his whip and…”
“Were there cultists feeding the snakes?” Sirtawmis asked. “Maybe that was it?”
Drakenbrine looked at the half-orc, “That may be…”
“OK,” Amnon_Balderk, the orc monk leaned forward. “I am interested. A number of monasteries were lost in the Sundering. Perhaps it was one of these which he was exploring?”
“Could have been,” Drakenbrine nodded.
“So what was this great, great grandfather’s name?” Amnon_Balderk asked.
“Drakenbrine,” the dwarven sorcerer answered, as if it should have been obvious.
“That’s your name,” Amnon_Balderk commented.
“It was his name too,” Drakenbrine replied.
“So you’re named after your great, great grandfather?” Amnon_Balderk asked, “Because he was this great explorer?”
“No,” Drakenbrine laughed, as if it was a silly question. “I am named after my father.”
“Wait, so your great, great grandfather is your father?” Amnon_Balderk looked shocked.
“Would explain a lot of things,” ChoirsOfFire muttered beneath her breath.
“No, my father was named after my grandfather, who was named after his grandfather,” Drakenbrine tried to explain. “Listen, it’s a family name.”
“So it’s a surname,” Amnon_Balderk nodded.
“No, my great, great grandfather was a great explorer but never of royalty,” Drakenbrine shook his head.
“Royalty?” Amnon_Balderk looked confused. “What are you talking about?”
“You said his Sir name… like the half-orc over there, Sirtawmis,” Drakenbrine explained – then paused, “Wait. Is that half-orc some kind of prince or knight?”
Amnon_Balderk was now thoroughly confused.
“I have a question,” IAmSposta blurted. “Now you said he was a great, great grandfather…?”
“Yes?” Drakenbrine answered.
“Now, in the Fey we don’t do our ancestor the way you,” he looked over at AEDorsay, then back to Drakenbrine, “Prime Materials do.”
Sirtawmis groaned.
“But,” IAmSposta continued, “Does that mean he was your grandfather and you’re just emphasizing how great he was? Why not simply call him the greatest?”
“No,” Drakenbrine explained. “After your grandfather, it’s great grandfather. Then a great added for every one before that.”
“Even if they’re horrible to you? You’d still call them great?” IAmSposta asked.
Drakenbrine opened his mouth to answer and realized he wasn’t sure he knew the answer…

My husband passed away in 2014. It has not been the most wonderful of decades since. Related slightly, the pup who became my fiercest guardian after he passed died Saturday night at the age of 18. Hellyeah was a very cool little dog. I handle grief poorly, so threw myself into spring cleaning, and that will take a bit of time going forward, lol. I have to make room and set up for the 3d printer, after all. My office is currently a disaster area as I adapt to adding in additional consulting work and what appears to be a second job, lol.
I find the snakes bit hilarious because waaay back when, *in the theater*, I turned to my friends and asked exactly that same question: how did that many snakes survive? These days I would know the answer (they would eat each other), but even then, they wouldn't have all been together and mixed in like that.
There is a novel series called the Heorot series, about an attempted colonization of another planet. Niven, Pournelle, and Barnes (not a fan of Niven, but Pournelle really has a smoothing effect on him, and Barnes brings in a nice tonal improvement). One of the more interesting things about it is that they took a very peculiar closed system frog from earth and alienized it, lol. I used the underlying ideas and mingled them with the early history of Pern for the very earliest history of Wyrlde.
That uses up my time for this morning. Got work.

Grief is never easy, especially when it reminds you of older losses. My condolences and best wishes as you find new normals.
I'm not a big sci fi reader, but my spouse has strong opinions on Niven without Pournelle, so it amuses me to find that isn't isolated. I did, however, spend many a day lost in Pern. That was arguably one of my first true introductions to fantasy. Menolly will always have a special place in my heart.

I had a husky that was everything to me and passed away a few years ago at the age of 17. Still hurts.
But what I've done is made him immortal in my D&D games. On his birthday (March 22nd) and on the day he passed, if we play on that day/week - the characters hear a howl that shakes the heavens and brings fear to the hearts of evil and inspires heroes - and the players get Odin Inspiration (his name was Odin) - that doesn't go away until used. So I had a game I ran this Tuesday where this happened - and the party got Odin inspiration.
I have since added two more "Great Howls" (two of my players would have their own dogs pass - so they were added to "The Great Howl").
Drakenbrine I climbs over the rats deceased body and walks down the hall, watching his every step. Some time passes by with no events other than some slips and slides.
By now, all light has disappeared, even to creatures with dark vision. “Why is it so dark down here? Usually there’s a torch to be set aflame.”
After thirty minutes of complete darkness, a single strand of lights appears. As he approaches, this light gets brighter and brighter, until he enters a circular room with three torches on the wall, and a book in the center.
“So that’s where the torches are.”

Sorry to hear about your loss. My grandfather died a few years ago, and it obviously isn't the same as a partner, but I feel you. Needless to say, it's absolutely terrible when a loved one passes. I hope things get better for you, however long that takes.
I had a cat, named Sage, who died in 2018 (not long after I started playing D&D, strangely enough) at the age of 19 years. I don't believe in spirits or the divine, but sometimes I like to think she's still there, sitting alarmingly close to the fireplace and meowing excessively loudly at 3 a.m. for food lol.

Hi, I’m DrakenBrine, here’s my Sig and characters
Is everybody ignoring part 3 because I’m stretching the story way too thin or did nobody see it?
I think the main thing is they're so short - just a few lines - literally. That it's difficult to get into it too much because before you do it's over.
If I were to give a recommendation, write a few paragraphs (or dialogue equal to a few paragraphs) - so that there's something to read.
Otherwise it's these small tiny speed bumps that are just quick blips.
You need hooks to get a reader's attention.
Bob ran through the open door.
Is a sentence right?
But now change that to -
Bob stared down the long hallway, reflecting on what he'd been running from. The door out of this maze of terror was now in front of him. Was it another trap? He was almost certain it was. Death could be waiting just on the other side - but after all he'd endured - he was ready to face death. Bob swung open the door and ran through.
Chances are the reader is going to be more curious about Bob, and what's beyond the door, and what maze he was just in compared to the first sentence.
Nice stories everyone. I do so love being a tortle in one of the stories, reptiles make great pets, and I own several. Hopefully I will be adding a new reptile to my collection soon. RIP Smaug.
And here I thought you were stuck in the Negative Plane, ne'er to return. Welcome back!
Thanks. I'll be sure to avoid mentioning Those Whom Must Not Be Named in future lol
