"They should be, unless they've gone to the market." Lil knocks on the door. When no answer comes she knocks again, a little louder. After a moment the door creaks open and a face appears in the gap. The man looks to be in his late middle-age, with greying hair and a wrinkled forehead. He looks confused for a second, and then registers who is on his doorstep. "Lilli! It's so nice to see you love, come on in! And who's this friend of yours?"
She looks embarrassed. "No one but Dad has called me Lilli for years."
He reaches out, and gives Flint's hand a strong shake. "Nice to meet you lad, you can call me Martin. And it's nice to meet your rat too! Come in, come in, I'll pop the kettle on. And your mother is just finishing up a job Lilli, but I'll let her know you've arrived". He bustles back through the doorway. It leads into a cramped kitchen, filled with clutter and the smell of freshly baked bread.
He moves to the counter, cutting a steaming chunk off the loaf and spreading it with butter and jam, before handing it to Flint. "Things are good! It's been a bit quiet for the business lately, although I suppose we should be grateful for it. And in the meantime I've been learning some new skills!" He gestures towards the loaf of bread. "How did you come to meet Lilli here?"
'Well, we were just kinda hanging around a lot together, used to go to this place called the YonStore. She was really kind to me, able to look past my questionable smell and even more questionable living conditions, which ya probably don't wanna know about. Mmm, this bread is goooood!'

Lil smiles to herself as Flint talks, not used to people speaking so kindly about her.
Martin laughs. "Don't worry, I won't ask anymore about it! I have heard of the Yonstore though. Even been there a few times myself, in my younger days." As he says this a woman steps into the kitchen, roughly the same age as Martin, with hair somewhere between blonde and grey. "Am I interrupting anything?", she says, wiping what looks suspiciously like blood off her hands.
"Of course, I'll forget you even mentioned it" Martin says with a smile.
The woman walks over to Lil and gives her a hug, then turns to face Flint. "Welcome! I'm Alba, or Allie. Or maybe even Mum?" She shoots Lil a look, clearly wondering if Flint is more than a friend.
"Oh forgive me! I've made this uncomfortable, I'm so sorry. I just thought Lilith might have moved on while she was away." Lil glares at her mother, clearly holding in some unspoken anger about this topic. She clears her throat. "Well! Now that we're all getting on, should I show you to your room Flint?"
Lil laughs. "I don't think you'd like the sewers in this town. They're more open drains than anything else."
She leads the way down a narrow corridor to a small but cozy room. There is colorful quilt spread out on the bed, and a bookshelf crammed to bursting with novels. "Here you go! This used to be my bedroom, but I'm happy to sleep on the couch. Make yourself at home!"
'Ya sure? I'm used to sleeping on couches. Pile of rags, dirty hammock, half-busted mattress on a trash heap, I'm not a guy who exactly needs comfort. But this? This is amazing!'

"I'm sure! This is the least I can do, after you let me stay in the Wolf and Rat for so long. Let me know if there's anything else you need. Once you're settled I could show you round the village, if you like?"
'I suppose they are! I'd still be living there now if it wasn't for Kiara!'
'Let's hope it won't come to that! Are ya parents around?'

'Lilli? So that's what they call ya! I'm Flint by the way. Don't mind my pet rat, he's friendly'

'Ya got a nice house, Martin! Mmm, someone been baking?'
Flint looks very happy here

Martin beams at the compliment. "Thank you my boy! Yes, I've just made some bread. Keen for a taste?"
'Of course I am! Nothing beats freshly-baked bread! How are things going with ya?'

'Yeah, it's still a great place! Ignore the wererat infestation rumours though, I can confirm they're just a misunderstanding. Oh, hey Lil's mom!'

'Open drains do not sound fun' Flint agrees.

*On a trip to Lil's hometown, Ash could have come with Flint though*
