'An otherworldly being, kinda like a god but not God, put a blessing on me. Made me able to speak to rats, made me much more resistant to hunger and disease than the average half-elf. Well, not all disease, just the ones commonly found in the kind of places I would be calling home. Gave me an almost instinctual knowledge of underground layouts. Basically, shaped me into the perfect creature to live in a sewer.'
