So there is this monster in a kobold press book called an akkorokamui that is like a giant octopus sort of kraken thing, but they are friendly celestials that love talking to people. Also, eating their tentacles (which grow back) can cure pretty much anything.
so imagine an adventure where the characters are paid an enormous amount of money to get one of these monster’s tentacles to cure the king’s (the characters friend) sickness. They go on an adventure, and they eventually find the akkorokamui, which they realize is friendly and tells them it’s one of the last akkorokamui on earth. They also refuse to give them one of their tentacles because the king ordered people to hunt akkorokamui to near extinction to cure plagues, so the akkorokamui doesn’t want to help. They don’t attack unless attacked.
the players either don’t get the money and the king dies or they kill the akkorokamui for their tentacles and the species goes extinct.

Wow, that's a pretty dark quandary. I like it, nice and evil.

I want you to know. You are going to lose. You are going to lose badly. You’re going to lose badly and it’s going to be awesome.
The basic concept of the Sandman is that it attacks players in a short or long rest.
Maybe it could hunt people by appearing in their dreams, and when they wake up, they appear?
I like that idea
I’m basing it one the version of the sandman that steal children’s eyes, so I think it would use stealth, so maybe the dream idea wouldn’t work well with that

One idea are spiders that eat light, and their webs of unlight catch light in their webs. If they eat enough light, they can become enormous, rivaling adult and even ancient dragons in power.
this was inspired by ungoliant from the lord of the rings and related books, mostly the silmarillian.

Okay, but how would it try to kill them? Would it wield normal weapons? Or try to suffocate them or something?

I think there are way too few spiders in D&D, so I think we should work together to make some cool magical spiders.
Oh yeah we should! Good idea
