'Yeah, I've always found it pretty pleasant, only that might be because I grew up there, didn't know anything different. What was it like where you were from?'

“Magnificent. Crystal caverns, sprawling stone palaces… unfortunately my family was murdered when I was very young and I was raised by the cult of the assassin goddess Zinzerena, so I never really got to enjoy the aristocratic lifestyle. What was it like growing up in the sewers?”

'It was great! Cool, shady, quiet, lots of stuff to scavenge, no rules, no society. Just me and the rats, which was how I liked it.'

“That sounds great! A truly simple life.” As Flint talks to them, Davras changes, changing from primarily female to primarily male. Their swimsuit also changes to become gender appropriate, although it stays the same color blue.

”Do you like scavenging?”

'Yeah! I mean, I do it just to survive, but then it's also so satisfying to find something for free that would have otherwise been slowly rotted away or drifting deeper into the sewers. I couldn't imagine not doing it to be honest, even if I didn't have to. What do you do for money?'

“That’s fascinating! I was an assassin until very recently. I was very good at my job and I never killed an innocent person, but deep down I’m just too gentle at heart to be a professional killer, so a few weeks ago I quit the cult and struck out on my own. That’s how I wound up on this beach.

What’s the most interesting thing you’ve scavenged lately?”

'I found this ring!' He holds up a grimy silver ring. 'Precious, isn't it?!'

“Beautiful!” Davras takes a look at the ring. “That truly is a precious ring. Does it do anything magical or is it just pretty?”

'I don't know if it's magic, but it'll sell quicker than I can say abracadabra!'

'I mean, it certainly wasn't a ring of immortality, I know that for sure...'

Davras nods. “Yeah, you’ll be able to sell that for a nice price. What do you mean, you know for sure it’s not a ring of immortality?”

'Well, it certainly hadn't given its previous owner any favours... Found him floating past with his throat slit. Must have been dumped in a hurry, they hadn't emptied his pockets, whoever did it.'

“Wow.” Davras is silent for a minute. “Well at least you scavenged the ring. I think he would’ve wanted you to have it. Do you think the thieves will come back for it?”

'Nah, probably not. Got more important things to deal with, I reckon. And most people don't wanna go poking around in the drains for a tiny chance of reclaiming their goods. Nah, I reckon I'll be fine'

“Good. Besides, you’re safe here at the beach. Nothing bad ever happens here. That is a lovely ring though.”

'It so is! You had anything interesting happen to you?'

“Not really. But since interesting to me usually means somebody needs to be killed, I’m happy for that. I’m just enjoying my life and deciding what I want to do next.”

Davras goes over to a spider silk tent they put up on the beach. “I think I’m going to go to bed now, it’s getting late. But maybe we can hang out again tomorrow?”

'Sounds like a plan! And yeah, a peaceful life is nice. I'd recommend scavenging, but then I would, wouldn't I?'

Davras smiles. “Yeah, scavenging could be fun.” They go into their tent and shut the flap behind them.
