"Believe me, given my crimes, this is far more than I deserve. I'll reserve any complaints for when the Imperials torture me again."
Mound shudders. “I’d rather not darken my night with thoughts of the Empire. Perhaps I can treat you to a glass of Brinebrew tomorrow? Much like torture, it’s an unforgettable experience that any true critic should try it at least once.”
He tilts his craggy head. “That metaphor doesn’t work all too well. But I trust you understand my meaning.”
"Sounds splendid. And, given the nature of critics, the metaphor works better than you think." Mr. Black smiles.
It’s not easy to tell, given the lack of eyebrows and facial muscles, but Mr. Black can tell that Mound is smiling. “Always wanted to be a writer, but I never got the chance to practice. Koralline don’t really do that sort of thing. We have music, we have physical art. We sculpt, and on the surface we draw and paint. But we don’t write. No plays, no novels. Paper doesn’t really hold up once you hit the ocean floor. Humanoids also don’t, for that matter.”
He thinks for a second. "That seems... well, I'm not one to disregard others' cultures out of hand, but I'm sure that your people have so many interesting things to write down. Carvings on stones, knots on rope or kelp, anything is better than nothing."

“I suppose you’re right. But we tend to live a long time. I’m almost a hundred-twenty, nearing my fifth cycle, and I’m still considered young. A Koralline’s physical body begins to deteriorate around their eight-hundredth year, and our minds can remain intact even into the thousands. I’ve heard tales of great battles and empires that predate most all written history, told firsthand by our elders.
”My point is that oral history is much more important to the Koralline. The hivemind allows us to communicate underwater over vast distances. Why rely on paper to record and document events when you can speak to someone who remembers them firsthand?”

“I’ll help you out. We’re heading to Italy soon. You can probably find a suit in Venice or Verona, albeit at a ridiculous price. ‘Course, we can always get the Captain to lower it for you.”
He winks, or at least attempts to.
“As for the telepathy, I can handle that bit. I’ve got a good memory. You ask your questions, I translate.”

The morning sun shines brightly on the Barnacle‘s deck as it rises and falls with the slow waves. The crew hurries about the top deck, hoisting the sails. They fill quickly, pulling the Barnacle inexorably forward.
As the tides wash over the coast, they cover the the sandy depression caused by the boat. Within the hour there’s no sign that the ship had been there at all.
The Captain has made a rare appearance on deck. He stands at the ship’s wheel, maneuvering the ship and correcting its course every so often. He holds an odd map in his hands.
*Characters joining while the ship is at sea can no longer do so normally, but they can still be found through other means. Maybe your character is on a ship we encounter, or maybe they live in the sea. Maybe they float by on a raft or something. Be creative!*

Normiah is setting up some sort of device on the deck. Upon closer inspection (DC 15 perception), you can see it's a harpoon launcher. It seems to also have a thing to put a chain in it, so the harpoon can be brought back when fired.
