*The Captain is a curse-breathin', sword shatterin', blood boilin', storm tamin', haul keelin', barnacle bellied, sea dog and we wouldn't have it any other way!*
A tall man with orc blood in his veins approaches the ship. A red bandana covers his bald head from the glaring sun and his grey skin shows no sign of burn. His bare arms are knotted with muscles and brutal scars. A large shark tooth hangs from a piece of twine around his neck and a strange sword edged with shark teeth rather than metal is strapped to his side. His boots thunk on the ships wood as climbs aboard and gazes around at the rest of the working crew.
Jack is standing on deck, staring deeply into the surging storm inside his black crystalline arcane focus.
“That there’s an interesting focus friend, mind telling me the story behind it?”
He turns around, slightly surprised by his break in focus. "Of course, friend. This here crystal was the heirloom of a long line of captains on my old ship, one I eventually inherited. It's control over storms is, as you can guess, rather useful for pirates." He seems slightly uncomfortable being asked about his past.

"Aye, I have." He folds his scarred arms across his chest, "The names, Jonah Whalebait. I've sailed to the edge of the world and back and I know my way around the ship. I'm sure my hands would be valuable to have around."
He raises an eyebrow, "I thought you were supposed to be paid to be a sailor? Not the other way around. If I'm workin' my tail off under the hot sun and fightin' to keep this hunk o' junk afloat, I'd like to think I'd be rewarded for my labor."

He chuckles. “Heh. In a perfect world, sure. Thing is, you’re not just paying room and board — you’re also paying for safety. The Notched Blade’s protection is a gift, wouldn’t ye agree?”

*if this is rp: you're all good.*
*If you're as confused as your character: joining the Barnacle is mainly safe passage, room and board, etc. not necessarily joining the crew. Joining the crew would be an entirely different circumstance, but also would require you to prove you are worth their time and pay I'd assume*

“Much appreciated, mate.” He pockets the coins eagerly and leads Jonah inside.
The interior of the Barnacle is a splendid affair. The entire room is made of solid oak timber, and dozens of lanterns sequentially placed on the walls fill the ship with warm light. People — pirates, but also many perfectly ordinary people — fill the room’s tables, eating and drinking heartily. A woman with the lower body of a scorpion scuttles back and forth behind the bar, using her many appendages to make and serve drinks with uncanny speed.
Two ornate rugs dominate the center of the room. Both are curiously free of spills — a feat the rest of the ship has hopelessly failed to accomplish. Situated between the rugs is an ornate chest flowing with gold. As you watch, one drunken dwarf reaches for a coin and leaps back as the chest bites at him. The dwarf scurries away, and the satisfied mimic watches him go.
Towards the prow of the ship is a brass door bearing a sign that reads “Captain’s Quarters, Do Not Enter.” Next to it, a smaller wooden door reads “Belowdecks.” The second door is ajar, and it reveals a descending wooden staircase.

*Yup. It’s more a rp opportunity than anything else. The Notched Blades is its own faction and you have to pass one or more trials to join. Speaking of which, the Captain is still interested in recruiting Jack.*
