He smiles. “That’d sure be nice. You’d really do something like that for free?”
"I sure would." He smiles and for the first time ever, you can detect a brief hint of weariness, but it is washed away quickly by a sly grin. "I should warn you though... I used the word man pretty loosely." He gently picks up the hat and holds it in his hands, turning it over. There is some sort of change in his eyes, but they are held downcast at the hat so you can't see it very well.
Then he tosses the hat into the air. It twirls and flips and spins and seems to get caught in a beam of silver moonlight.
At that moment, a change seems to come over the swinger. You barely catch it, for your eyes were distracted by the flying hat. Horns seemed to curl out from under his fedora, a pin-striped suit flashed across his body, hooves clicked across the ground, and unnerving eyes flashed up at the flying hat. Then, all in an instant, the change was over.
The same swinger as before stands before you, but the hat in his hands has changed. It is still the same hat, and if you look closely you can see where it has been worn ragged and patched up. Somehow though, the hat's true nature isn't smothered by its worn tatters anymore. It looks... you couldn't say good as new, that would overlook the artifacts incredible age and accumulated worth. It's better than new. It looks exactly how such a precious hat should look, and the wear and tear that has been wrought upon it only adds to its value. He hands it back to you, "Is this a little better?"
Nathan’s eyes widen. “Wow. How did you — wow. That’s amazing. Thank you so much.”
“My pleasure,” he bows, “I merely… showed you another perspective of the hat. A truer, more powerful perspective that was able to manifest upon being revealed. It’ll last for a long time now.”
"Oh yeah this feels right," he mutters uncertainly. He grabs a few random food items off of the shelves as he makes a beeline for the door, and opens it.
He finds himself in a massive kitchen, with bustling cooks all around him, too busy to pay much attention to the warforged.
He experiences a mild sensory overload, then gets over it and smiles happily. "Time to test out my new tongue!" And he dunks his head in a pot of soup.
"STOP." Before he dunks his head in a pot of boiling hot soup, someone grabs him by the neck and throws him against the wall. A tall, rail-thin man with a flabby, humanoid mask stands before him.
"That is not how you conduct yourself in a professional kitchen!"
He groans mechanically, shaking his head to clear it before looking up at the man. His face becomes fearful. "Oh boy, I'm sorry, please forgive Daisy. I never get to eat."
He seems surprised by the man's strength. Daisy is pretty huge, and very strong himself.

“That’s amazing. How did you manage it?”
“I’ve always seen things a little differently than most people. Then I made a sort of deal with the devil and he was able to teach me how to show other cats that perspective and make it a reality. Can’t say I understand how it works exactly. I simply do the seeing and he does the changing.”

"Aw, what a shame. You're still an admiral in my book, Captain. I've known many boatmen and sailors in my time, but never an admiral."
His smile is playful. “Nepotism sure does pay.”

He raises his eyebrows, “Family business, eh? You come from a long line of seamen?”
“Not quite, but my mother was a great sailer. She built many of the foundations the Empire relies on.”
