Strugel clans have four main categories, each identified by the color of their dyes and their physiques, as they have vastly different roles on Honkachu. Each color also has a set of virtues that each member must follow to be a "good citizen." The clans are as follows, from least to greatest:
White/Blue: Brutes. These strugels are typically in charge of farming, digging, and enforcement, as they or their ancestors committed a "grave offense" and are "undeserving" of more expressive jobs. They are tough beyond belief and, in the event that Honkachu has to fight, these folks are going out to the front lines and most likely coming back. They either have no dyes at all or, in the case of more elite "Brutes," have blue dyes (ground from the feathers of Frer-Awk, which are vulture-like birds native to Honkachu) in their fur, the only pigment they are allowed to own. The virtues of the Brutes are Loyalty, Hope, and Stoicism, as one day they may be allowed to go up a caste if they stick together and endure.
Pink/Purple: Craftsmen. These strugels are the most common, and are considered the baseline for their society. They work the machines day in and day out, keeping everything in order. They cook, they clean, they build, and most importantly, they invent. Those with pink dyes must defer to elders with purple dyes, and all their inventions are credited to their clan, not themselves. They tend to be more lithe than other strugels, often with thinner, quicker paws as well. The virtues of the Craftsmen are Fear, Creativity, and Enthusiasm, as the world we live in is brutal and cold, and we must face it with all our might and minds.
Silver/Gold: Nobles. These strugels are the ruling class, and are usually the only ones to own businesses that deal with other races on a regular basis. They are usually the fattest, craftiest strugels, and many of them have very impure bloodlines. The thing that makes a Noble strugel is that they have the position, no matter what they had to do to earn it. They invent as well, but they rarely deal with machines directly. Gold strugels are typically taught to be agoraphobic as soon as they can walk, while Silver strugels are usually taught to be misanthropic at around the same time. The virtues of the Nobility are Control, Deceit, and Thriftiness, as one must be willing to make sacrifices in the veins of truth and love in order to keep society running in this dark world.
Orange/Red: Mystics. These strugels are separated from society, and are often the victims of rumor and black propaganda from the Noble stugels in an attempt to keep them in check. Mystics are raised with devotion to the god of strugels, the forge, and the hearth, Volstadt, and spend most of their lives on Honkachu Mountain. They have thinner fur, stronger muscles, and higher tolerance to heat than to cold. They are nearly exempt from any sort of fear or tyranny, and they dye themselves with colors that demonstrate strength and passion more for fun than for identification. They rarely interact with the majority of Honkachu except to give assistance from either their gods or the history they keep endless records of, inscribed in snailsteel damascus. To have a weapon, tool, or armor forged by these mystics is a great honor, and one rarely afforded to the Nobles who would rarely use them anyway. The virtues of the Mysitcs are Wisdom, Agency, and Compassion, as there is no use worrying about a present or future we have the knowledge and power to change.
