Power system idea: There is no power scaling. Power comes from the creative application of abilities and having more resources than your opponent. Like, some people are more dangerous, but that's because they brought a gun to a knife fight. They have to maintain and load their gun, however, and if the other person knows how to throw a knife, it's less of a gap. This metaphor has gone on for a bit too long. So basically, everyone has their own eldritch metabolism, which can absorb certain alchemical/eldritch/whatever forces from what you eat. This is based on genetic factors, as well as what powers your parents used. You can train your body to use different powers, but they have to be in line with your original metabolism's abilities. So eating a specific meal can give you certain bonuses to your power(s), while for someone else, it might not be anything but food. Different cultures have different "sacred foods" because of their similar genetics, and what might be a basic ability in one place might seem truly magical in another. Different methods of preparing food can bring out different elements/powers within the ingredients, much like how nutrients and flavors work IRL.
