I remember it all, until I don’t. I don’t know how I got to the church, or the days leading up to it. Mother says she saved me, dragged me from the torment, and brought me home. She says I was broken. That I neither spoke nor ate. None of this I remember. As if it never happened. But it did. Mom would never lie about such things. She looks to me the way she always did. With love. But… nobody else does. My former friends and family shy away from me. As if I was the monster. Why is that? Am I still me? I look now in you, mirror. I see me, but not all of me. I lost something. Memories? Joy? I don’t know. I remember everything, except for the days I was gone. Mother must be telling the truth. She must be. But if she isn’t, mirror, what truly happened, and what am I?

I'm not sure if I've shared this with all of you yet, but here's the concept for a story I'm working on:

In 1993, a fast food chain called Chik'n Bop commissioned a video game to be made as part of the company's latest marketing campaign where they promoted "healthy food" like grilled chicken and fruit salad cups. This game was placed in kid's meals across the country, and was a massive success despite the cost of the cartridges.
On April 20th, 1997, a sequel released, but failed to take off, reportedly due to it playing it extremely safe in an attempt to avoid controversy. Eventually, it was deemed lost media.
On October 13th, 2011, a small group of college students who called themselves hackers found a cartridge. It was still functional.
On Halloween of the same year, a PC port of the legendary game, Howl's Adventure 2, came out online for free. It was loaded with prank scareware and occult imagery, as edgy as you could imagine. Mostly asset flips and stuff like that.

But the story isn't about the world outside the game. It's about the characters who have to handle the massive amount of EXEs injected into their formerly safe and happy reality.
The main character of the story is Evil Doctor Edgar Slopnik, a villain closer to the Sonic Boom Eggman than the original version. He's not exactly incompetent, but he doesn't have any real evil intent behind his actions. Sure he has monsters formed out of the pink meat paste he drills up from the mountains and he intends to take over the world with his dastardly schemes, but he has no intent on hurting anyone. He's a villain from a kid's game, and he's not meant to be threatening.
However, when the demons/EXEs appear, the Doctor has to gather the main cast of the game and fight back, since not even the titular character can survive a 1v1 with these things.

 Take whatever time you need to grieve and recover from this. I know losing a loved one, human or animal, can be really hard and no one will blame you for taking some time for yourself. Well wishes to you and anyone else in your life going through this pain with you and may your canine companion rest in peace.
